Trivial things happened in the office.

Today, everybody of this office got an e-mail from the boss. We’re told how many hours did I spend on the internet during the working time without using it for working normally. The top five were picked out during the first half year in that e-mail. Unfortunately, I was in the top five list. So I have to explain to my boss face to face. I feel embarrassed at that moment although the talking is casual and relaxed. Who did such a stupid thing? Of course only IT can do it. But, who can authorize to spy network traffic? I guess it’s from each department manager or big boss from management. But, who knows?
Now go back to think about it. I think that things IT did is reasonable for security reasons. On one hand it can be avoided the attack by virus under its monitor. On the other hand it’s convenient to monitor what staff was doing. Sometimes, we will be calm just put myself in other shoes.

- Seems your boss just want you to know that he ''knows'' what is going on over the office internet. This happens in other workplaces too and management like to use these methods to intimidate staff.
Actually it is very easy to monitor internet activity. Free software are available which would show the websites accesses, duration, date, time and user etc.
Now that you know they are watching, so try to avoid using office internet for personal things. Since we are paid to work, we should concentrate on working during office hours.

- There is a new rule in our office, employee forbid to use telephone during worktime. how rediculous it is!

- They can only interfere when personal use of phone is excessive. What completely disallow use of the phone means they are abusing their power and being unreasonable.

- As a manager, your boss is obligated to ensure that all staff concentrate on working during office hours. It's very sweet that you can place yourself in the other person's shoes.

- Actually. as everybody knows It's impossible to concentrate on working during whole office hours. So we need keep a low profile while using office internet for personal things.
