Again on Reading

Hot 1630 views. 2013-10-27 20:25 | book, read

I believe that, between a book and the person who chooses to read it, chances of some congeniality have already been prepared. Some people, for instance, have their personal and inside loneliness. Then people of this kind, in my opinion, are rather not ready for all of the so-called masterworks, but only intent on books which are capable to meet their innermost being. However, sometimes, such readers can never find such books, no matter where the former are supposed to have looked for the latter. These readers will possibly become extremely lonely ones, who will only read books of an exclusive kind, that is, works of their own.

And yet, just like a man can never forsake his affection towards some females, there is no one in this world who will forsake reading books merely because of his loneliness. Just for this reason, the mutual choices between people and books can actually and ever happen. But also like that there are never perfect lovers in the world, there is not a single book which can completely and eternally achieve the reflection of an entire personality. As far as I am concerned, the most perfect book in this world which all people will long for is the kind which not only reflects wholly the reader's distinct personality, but also, on its base of reflection, gives its light in some subliming manner, guiding the readers to grow freely and possitively, along any of the possible paths of his selfhood.

No man can be called friendless who has the companionship of good books.

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

To sit alone in the lamplight with a book spread out before you, and hold intimate converse with men of unseen generations - such is a pleasure beyond compare.
