Whether beauty is only skin deep is a mutual delusion. As counterparts to each other, they defiantly try to beguile the antagonist into their own denominations. In fact, most people are won by beauty and in the same breath persuaded by the "skin depth". Those who are all the time at the low ebb of their dignity may flood out of the blue, while people born with beauty, possibly as well, are not to sleep with a calm conscience. Though always careless about it, they may be at times caught off base by lack of sense of luster.  

美貌是否只是一层皮，这是一个相互的欺骗。作为彼此的对立者，它们彼此试图把敌对的一方迷惑到它们自己的一派之中。事实上，多数人在被美貌征服的同时又被“一层皮的肤浅”所劝服。那些一直处在尊严的低潮的人们可能偶尔会出人意料地意志高涨。另一方面，同样可能的是，生来拥有美貌的人也不见得就能高枕无忧。尽管常常并不在乎，他们有时也可能冷不防地陷于缺乏光彩的感觉之中。

So, is beauty only skin deep?

那么，美貌是否只是一层皮呢？

I used to claim, "There are things to be proved true in the future, though it's hard to be believed at present." And then I confront a question, "If something can only be proved in the future, then how can it matter for the present?" In a word, in reply of this question, I must tell that "belief is truth".

我曾宣言：“有些东西在将来才会被证明是事实，尽管现在它们难以被相信。”随后我就遭遇了一句反问：“如果一件事要在将来才能被证实，那它现在又有什么意义呢？”这个问题，用一句话来回答，我必须说：“相信即是事实。”

If the common believe that beauty makes the rule, the common stay the common and are ruled by the auspicious beauty. If the minor bigoted brush beauty aside all the way, they make their living by what they honor otherwise. The real extraordinary deed is, however, that there do exists some ones who made the truth different----and the difference stays the truth, a truth reluctantly but undoubtedly accepted by the common. Those who have made the difference are held in awe and because they are different, they may be excluded as exceptions. Nonetheless, can't the neglectful amount of exceptions be the mainstream of our life attitude?

如果常人相信美貌起着主宰作用，那么常人依旧平常并且被幸运的美貌所奴役着。如果少数的固执者对美貌一直都不理不睬，他们就得靠他们所尊崇的另外的东西来谋求生存。然而，真正超凡的事迹是，总存在一些人让事实变得不同寻常——而这些不同寻常却就是事实，就是被常人所不情愿但却无疑地承认的事实。那些创造了不同的人受到了敬畏，且因为它们是不同的，他们或许会被作为例外而被排除。尽管如此，那几近忽略的数量的例外就不能成为我们人生的主流态度了吗？

I am a person who'd like to follow the rare footprints. I have no choice, since I don't possess those treasures that others may possess. Beauty, indeed, does not appear on every face. So I take my own attitude against beauty. I adore the beauty that others may flaunt, while I take beauty valueless on my own face. I find that beauty is immaterial because since it isn't born with me----since it  has nothing to do with my personal value, why don't I forsake my anxiety for it?

我是一个乐于跟随少数者脚印的人。我别无选择，因为我不拥有他人所可能拥有的某些财富。诚然，美貌不会出现在每一张脸庞。所以对美貌我有自己的态度。我爱慕他人所可能炫耀的美貌，而若是在我自己脸上，我却认为美貌毫无价值 。我发现美貌无实质意义，因为既然他对我并不是与生俱来——既然它与我的个人价值毫不相干，我又何不摒弃自己对它的紧张渴望呢？

And, to make it a universal truth in the future, I hold the belief that beauty is only skin deep.

所以，为了让此在将来成为普遍的事实，我坚信美貌不过只是一层皮而已。
