No strokes of fortune, however large in quantity, could ever harass a man if only he has freedom of the heart which, though with a calculating mind he cannot but be busy about the riches, would never be taken away by such business. And also, as for the visiting of some unprecedent fame, not a bit of it could ever indulge the same man. Though cautiously fishing for reputation he has to be sensitive to any honors, neither would such sensibility take his feedom of the heart away. Finally, when it comes to love so sweet and rosy without an end, though this man would be yielding to his affection with no reservation, hardly could he ever be enthralled; since such yielding, all the same, could take away anything but his freedom of the heart. When a man has freedom of the heart, neither fortune, nor fame, nor love could ever entangle him. The poor is at leisure; the mediocre at peace; the lonely good at telling love stories.
