So this is the difference. We people in mainland mainly use QQ and Wechat(WeXin) to communicate. As I know, few people know about whatsapp, only those who had connection with friends or business parterners beyond the country.
QQ and Wechat do not need a telephone number, this is the biggest difference between whatsapp and wechat.

Hi. QQ only works on Chinese language computer.
It does not work on English language computer.
