On 20th July, the network Dragon TV aired a documentary alleging that Shanghai Husi Food Co. Ltd mixed expired meat with fresh meat, as well as picking up meat from a factory floor. What’s worse, Yum, McDonald’s, Burger King and Subway are all Husi’s clients. After the exposure, though Shanghai consumer protection authorities have launched an investigation, a new food safety scare is widening unstoppably.
Following numerous product and food safety scandals in recent years, the reputation of Chinese people has taken a massive battering. No wonder that Chinese products have always been labeled as defective in many countries. Food is the first necessity of the people, and the importance of food safety cannot be emphasized too much. As far as I’m concerned, the main culprit for the problem is the deficiency in supervision.
It seems that China has never lacked relative regulations on food safety management. Then why scandals have occurred frequently? Undoubtedly, they have not been implemented effectively. Facing these scandals, it’s high time for government to tighten the lax regulations. After all, regulator plays an essential role in food safety management. Besides, the punishment for unscrupulous manufacturers must be strict. Law-breakers must be dealt with accordingly and all persons are equal before the law. At last, media and public should also put pressure on them.
