The Ebola Virus

Hot 4794 views. 2014-8-11 23:25 | related, about

If you turn on the TV, you will find the related news about Ebola virus.  Ebola virus is one of the four Ebolavirii known to cause disease in humans. It has the highest case-fatality rate of these ebolaviruses, averaging 83% since first described in 1976, although fatality rates up to 90% have been recorded in one epidemic. Broke out in February of this year in Guinea, it has now spread to the Western African nations. There are more than 1800 confirmed or suspected cases, causing nearly 1000 people dead. Local time on August 8, WHO officially announced that Ebola virus in west of Africa had become an international public health emergency affair. This is the WHO’S highest reply to the Ebola virus since it broke out on a large scale.

Early symptoms of Ebola virus are similar to cold. The patients will feel tired and dizzy, and have the sore throat. If the patients are infected with Ebola virus, they will have severe symptoms after the incubation period. Because there are not effective way to cure, it cause many people die. As for the transmit way, it is not entirely clear how Ebola is spread. It is believed that ebola virus is transmitted to an initial human by contact with an infected animal's body fluids. Human-to-human transmission can occur via direct contact with blood or bodily fluids from an infected person (including embalming of an infected dead person) or by contact with contaminated medical equipment, particularly needles and syringes. This means every country should take actions to cut down the transmitting chain by restricting the entrance and trade appropriately. And they also should give the epidemic areas medical support and combine the medical resource to research and develop the vaccine by working together.

Referring the ebola virus, I recall the SARS that happened in China in 2003. It’s a nightmare for people who lost family member or friends in this serious disaster.  Although I was little that time, I still remembered it caused a panic and everybody rushed to buy vinegar and radix isatidis crazily. What impressed me most is that many doctors and nurse died because of infection when saving patient.  There is doctor from America affected with ebola virus and now return to America to take medical care in this affair. I also watch related report and know that he came to Africa last year and saved many patient infected with ebola virus. What he did deserves the gift from God and helps him get through the hardship. I also know that our Chinese medical team is still in Africa and loyal to their duties. They live to the Hippocrates oath and show the mercy for human-beings without board.

This is really a new disaster threatening human's lives and that definitely need efforts of the whole humanity. The virus like this, spread swift, high lethality. Confronted with incurable pathema, our human's power are seriously restricted. But I firmly believe, we have so many self-giving medical care staff and mighty determination towards disease. Therefore, we never give in!

I got chills every time I hear related news...It's terrifying. The only thing you can do facing a disease is to fight for your life and there's a great chance to die because of it? Sound so not this era. We've been used to seeing disease get cured, and now it's time for some of to wake up. We are not that advanced in science after all...
Best,
Lauren

Yes. I've heard that only small amounts of disasters can be cured. There are many unknow things in medical areas, and they are not advaned as we think. But i think the progress of other areas may promote the development of medical science, like 3D, gene research.

Of course there is always the brighter side, but being a pessimist, I consider many are too optimistic.
But my idea matters not, for I'm no scientist, only the fruit-taker, who are not really qualified to make judgments of this kind.
