I haven’t watched movies for one month. And I decided to find a movie listed in my douban movie. But I didn’t want to watch the movies which I have noted, and then chosen the movie Mary and Max. This was my fourth time to watch this movie, and this is still one of my favorite movies.This movie is about two pen friends, which one lived in New York and another lived in Austria.
And of course it’s a movie about friendship, but happened between a seven-year-old girl and forty-four years old man. The friendship lasts 20 years, and they suffered from many things and the friendship nearly broken. What impressed me most is the letter Max wrote to Mary, which show the forgiveness to Mary and pointed out the essence of true friendship and life. “I forgive you because you are not perfect. You are imperfect, so am I.’’, the letter begin with this, and then end up with, “ You are my friends. You my only friends.”
The film deals with themes including childhood neglect, friendship, the obscurity of life, teasing, loneliness, autism (Asperger syndrome in particular), obesity, suicide, depression, isolation, and anxiety. It’s not just about friendship, but also teaches us about the life. I don’t want to explain the plots in detail, which will deprive your interest in this movie. I have recommended it to my roommates, but they don’t really be interested in it. We can’t find the same moving part. And they can’t understand why people cry after watching such a movie, people like me. To be honest, I have cried several times after watching it.
Maybe you still hesitate to watch this after my boring descriptions. It doesn’t matter. Everyone have his own taste for movies and it’s hard to find someone who has the same HHP (haha point) and moving points like you. If you be keen on clay-animated black comedy-drama film, and want to know why two different people can be good friend and nearly break up, you can try to watch it and it won’t upset you.
