hometown flavor

Hot 2531 views. 2016-3-23 15:02 | particular, actually, another, living, people

Each place has its particular living style. If you go for Chaoshan area, you will see people there are fond of drinking tea, actually they called  “eat tea” not “drink tea”. Otherwise people there like to eat “beef hot pot”. So when the local chaoshanese go for another city. They probably take there drinking gongfu tea habit to another city. If you go for the Huaqian bei in Shenzhen futian, in lots of commercial building, you can easily see there is tea set in some stall, which it is definitely chaoshan merchant there. Take my personal as an example, I was actually not that fond of tea. But, I did buy a tea set and sometimes make a gongfu tea by myself in my rent place in shenzhen.

I saw some shop are selling smoky pork meat, I know some other province like Hunan and Guizhou , people there like eating this smoky process meat. I went to one of my colleague to have dinner who come from Hunan, he did take some wild pork smoky meat to Shenzhen. So it is surely a kind of living or cuisine style, even we come to a strange city, These kind of living style is still staying in our blood.

There is a kind of feeling called homesick, I would like to say eating those hometown specialty foods do make us comfort. Like we may not really come back home at moment, but we take some alternative option to miss and experience the hometown flavor.

My longtime best friend originates from Chaozhou (Chuichow in Cantonese), so I am quite familiar with their customs. I love their congee or porridge, fishballs and pickled vegetables. Having tea with them is interesting with those tiny little cups. The nature of Chaozhou people are that they standby friends in times of trouble and he has been a great help to me in the past. The Chaozhou language is so different from Cantonese. His father is a seaman or sailor and has interesting stories to tell us. Every province have their own specialty.

When I was in Guangzhou, I go out every night to eat and there are so much nice food to choose from including those Hunan good mentioned. It is a sort of happy feeling to be homesick, so when you have time go home and enjoy the best of hometown.

I read in the newspaper today that China will not allow new home developments to use English names. This will make it difficult for me.

Speaking of ChaoShan Cuisine, one of the best Chinese food I have ever had , eg, hot pot beef ball is so popular , some traditional snacks: eg, Ai Xi Gan Mian, PiaoXiangXiaoShi, I would like say even the ancient emperors are not fortunate enough to have them.

Again , when I visited Phoenix Ancient Town and ZhangJiaoJie, I just can’t help having smoked pork and smoked sausages, end up I bought one big bag home. Unfortunately, smoked meat is not allowed taking overseas, otherwise, I will definitely bring some—traditional Chinese favour.
