You could be a violin for making music or being a doorstop

Hot 51041 views. 2016-6-13 05:46 | fulfilled life, dreamed job, do what you love, successful life

One month ago, I had dinner with one former college neighbor, Meredith, a lovely Aussie girl, who is teaching Spanish at Uni.

But that didn’t surprise me until now I am starting English writing, and then I asked her if she had published any Spanish Articles. “Yes.” She said:"Ihad some academic ones.” I was really admired her. Especially when I realized that she’s having a position in teaching Spanish after completing her Doctor’s Degree major in Spanish which was not that easy for an Aussie as there are so many native Spanish speakers in Australia.

I was very curious: “How many years you have learnt Spanish?” “Around 10 years.” “Wow, you awesome.” Just think about I have been studying English for so many years, I haven’t published any articles. That got my attention, I continued the topic: “How would you think about learn Spanish, that’s very rare in Australia.” “I just love it, I love Spanish people, I enjoy talking with them, you know, my mathematics was horrible.”

“Have you worried about finding a job in the future the time you started learning Spanish.” “No, not really” “I just find it really fun, that’s all.”

“Cool, you are a lucky one as you are doing a job you love.” “Yes, I think so. I love making friends with students, I love reading their writing, which was really funny, that fascinated me when they made mistakes.” “Wow, I wish I could be like you.”

I got a clue that she didn’t study mathematics kind of subjects she hates; she chose the one she’s passionate about. I knew every year, she would travelling in Spanish Countries with the money she earned from doing part time job, but she’s not that rich type person, she's sharing a house with someone else, she had never spent money buying luxury stuff, even she spent little money on her clothes. I recon she’s such a friendly and easy-going person, she used to making great effort in talking Spain with people in Australia. She’s the happiest girl I’ve met so far, she’s spending every single minute doing the things she loves.

Just think about in China, most students have been learning English for more than 10 years, mainly, they are struggling in passing the exams. Even in Australia, most Chinese stay with friends who communicate with Chinese every day. Not many people are really cared about English. They learn English just for a task, once got a degree, that’s over, which included me; I just began English writing 2 months ago.

We really should ask why we do things before we getting started, if it is only for a degree (Master’s or Doctor’s) just for show off or finding a position we don’t enjoy, that would be waste of time, not worth it. Because if we don’t like it from inner heart, it won’t last long, we will return all of them to the teacher in the end.

Sometimes a degree does not really matters for being who you are. I have talked about TSF organizer in my previous blogs, a very handsome guy, Jai before. In fact, I am more interested in how he’s getting his business started.

He was born in Australia a poor family with first generation his parents immigrating from Philippine. Therefore, no one really cared about his study. As a result, he was not lucky enough to be high-educated. His parents used to put him with his sisters to learn dance, it’s not for his talent, just because his parents wanna get rid of him for a while, so that they could have spare time do their own things.

Every day when he finished work at call centre, he would go together with other 3 friends dancing outside which was very close to Melbourne city. With the salsa music turning on, he enjoyed dance so much as there’s no body watching. Gradually, there were 1 people added in, then 2, 3, 4, 20 and 30... In the end, there’s no space for them dance outside at all.

Wow, how could it be so popular? He was really excited, then his talent developed by starting his own business, renting a dance hall, he taught 1 hour free lesson for the beginners, and charged very little money for 1.5. Once when students moved to level 2, the fee will be a little bit increase, but it’s affordable. Mainly, it’s for fun, and encouraged more people get involved.

Now his TSF salsa foundation is becoming very popular in Melbourne, most Uni Students and Office professionals in CBD would like join him after work. It has bought huge benefits to the society. He has been interviewed for making movies sometimes, he’s getting famous.

He’s doing his business with his heart, he’s such a people person, as he was born poor, he knows how to treat others like friends with smiling face all the time, generous, warm-hearted by organizing donation to the poor people, having birth parties, Christmas theme parties for people who have no family around.. Sure thing, his business being so successful, and he can afford to buy a really nice car and a house in good area, and he had holiday in Hawaii just a month ago, even people who got a Uni degree couldn’t compete with him, he’s a typical guy who’s sought after by the most young, pretty girls from the Uni.

I can tell that he’s living in a fantasy world with so much satisfaction; he said he was so lucky to live in a life he never thought about, it was not even in his dream.

That’s the dream life everyone’s pursuing, being successful, it’s not only about a job which you can earn money, but consume your heart. It’s a work even you don’t get paid, you still enjoy doing.

These two are special cases, in real life, the majorities are not that get involved in their jobs, they are easily getting bored for doing a repetitive job day in and day out, they could be count down for how many hours left so that they can finish work being home early. They are lazy, they are being rude because they are not get motivated from the job, they complain, they gossip, they buy lottery for the expectation of winning a big money, so that one day they don’t have to attend work.

Therefore making music or being doorstops, it’s all up to you, it doesn't matter where you live, and it all depends on your mind. If you wanna a fulfilled life, then start doing which fits you most, then one day, you might be 1 of them, and I wish I could be like them too.

Life is short. We are expected to accomplish our desired lifestyle within our golden 20 years. Our golden years starts from our age of 20's and would peak at around 40 or latest 50. There could still be opportunities after the age of 50 but the spark won't be so bright. Age is not a major consideration but we should act swiftly while we still can.

There are so many things happening around us which makes us wonder what is the most suitable future and occupation for us. Some are good in certain professions, tourism, dancing, etc while others are good in teaching or business. Everyone has some talent or something which others don't possess. All we need to do is to identify our own interests and develop them to our benefit.

One of the happy things in our working life is to work in a profession or job which we like. The day would pass in a jiffy if we are happy doing what we like, but the days would be like years if we are working for money only.

Success comes at point where preparation meets opportunities. The most satisfying time is when career and passion come together. I once went to an employment agency for seeking jobs and I saw a board which said ''Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life''. Looking back I realize how true those words are.

We are just like a blank piece of paper when we were born. We keep learning from others until the day we can think on our own and chart our own future. I myself have been inspired by successful people and have studied their biographies before embarking on my own adventures.

Formal education would make you a living but self-education would earn your a fortune.

To be honest, the job which I’m doing now is not attractive and interesting to me at all. The only reason I chose it is that I’m going to graduate from university soon and I have worked as an intern in this company for several months and thus after graduation this job will be my first job. Actually, my university is just a very normal university and my major is not popular as well. Besides, since nowadays it’s not easy for college graduates to find a job, I may as well stick to doing this job in order to make a living because I’m the only child in my family and my parents count on me. And the area that I’m really interested in cannot offer me a stable salary. However, when I’m alone, it’s easy for me to get frustrated and sad because the harsh reality has deprived me of freedom and passion.

Talking about job , I think the satisfaction of success mostly depends on one's attitude. Wealth does not equal to success in my eyes, optimistic attitude does. If people can balance their attitude when meet  unfair things, things will go different then. I do believe I should keep a very low profile to gain job experiences during my first job, no matter how much job were given to me by my supervisor, I will just finish them without any complains. This can be really hard and suffering for me, but I just do not want to show that I am weak or too fragile to complete the task, even I know my colleagues who apparently have less affairs to deal with. I do not think this the way they bully me and I am coward. On the contrary, I take this as a challenge, eventhough I have a heavy task everyday, which means that I need to improve my efficiency on work. I am trying to push myself to do everything quick without mistakes. Never complain, I think I can gain more during this tough period. I am really tired but I can see my promising futher is right there. One day I can go there.
And thanks for your sharing, wish everyone can be powerful during the process of success.

Your article really make me thinking something: In reall life , we have to do something can may help us find a job, then maybe a good job, then maybe a well-paid job, etc. But the problem coming: if we do what we like, we may have the passion to work better; if not, what shall we do? Just make the job as a routin, lack of the passion, just regard   the job  as a   tool to make a living. As the time goes by, we become a machine for work, we try our best to save money in order to prepare for the future's spending. Too many times we will make a complain that we are unlucky, for we work very hard, but only earned too little. Then we lost of things which we used to like doing, we are rotten gradually by the life.
We can really make a success in someway on condition that we never lost our passion for life, love for all kind of lives, search for the truth, most of all, we respected ourselves, and never say die. No matter what kind of life role we played, we play it better. Sooner or later, we can fly in the sky of life freely like an eagle.

Interest is the best teacher. More words I can say, but I only want to say that a good future lies in persistent work with interest and also action. You can do well by writing and practicing. Look forward to reading your English book, or a biography.

Plus, I have read words from Englishpassion which earns a good start, keep writing.

Yes, you are right, most people in their 20s and 30s are most active, energetic, bold and ambitious. Therefore, if someone really wanna have a fulfilled life, it’s  better start early than late.  Once get married, having kids, especially when parents turn to old, that would be much harder to start a new life as there are too much responsibilities, it’s easily to be stuck.

However, I was very impressed by  some old American ladies pursue their real dreams even turn to 50, 60 and 90s, which is amazing, I don’t mean they start their business for making money, it’s for their hobbies they had never get chance to do in their lifetime.

It is reported that majority of Americans , nearly 80%  don’t get involved for  what they are doing, even if they earn very good salaries. That might be the same as people from other countries. Therefore , if someone doing a job even if don’t get paid, they still can’t stop doing it, that would be the really lucky ones who regarded work as their companions, I do have some friends like that. But most people are not that lucky.

Reading biographies from successful people is a very effective way for get inspired, encouraged, that makes you different from the ordinary people. It’s like you are always surrounded with really nice positive people. Actually, I have been supported and get  motivated by the books I read , that’s how I started  my life in Australia. it’s not the real people from real life, they are too busy to help you out. Therefore, if one don’t read books, that would be a pity  thing.

HI, Cicipurple:

you are doing internship as a full time student, but you don’t like what you are doing just for money and for family responsibility for your parents. That would be really hard for you to get involved in the job.

You are still young, you haven’t started your life yet, but you can see through all your life by keeping a job like that. I totally got your feeling, as I was stuck in a state-run company for 10 years, I was nearly kill myself. There’s no life to me at all until I quit the position. If you are interesting , you can read my blog: you are not mean to be a lucky one, you got fight…..

Actually, Uni life is different from workplace, most people get bored from the routine work they are doing.

It’s really up to you, if you find another job, it might be worse or better, if you take risks, there might be a new and exciting unknown world in front of you.

However if you wanna stable, with the money you can pay bill, you can still fulfil your dream by doing the things you really enjoy in your free time, after work or weekends. It doesn’t matter which uni you have entered , what you have learnt, it do matters for how you are gonna spend time from now, make full use of the time doing things you like, you might still set a goal for yourself, whatever, just  getting yourself being motivated. One day some magic thing might happen to you. Best of the luck

Hi, Byxiamo

Totally agree with you, you still keep positive attitude while you are experiencing tough time in your life, which is amazing.

I recon it’s likely  you are just started your job, which makes you not that efficient.  I had the same problem before, when I started the job in Australia, I could never finish work on time, I was very slow, I didn’t know how to do it at all. There were piles of work waiting for me, which influenced other people.  I worried about it all the time, but I read the notes on the train, at home, I had shorter lunch break and being home 10 minutes’ late, but still can’t finish. I was frustrated for 2 years.

I had nasty people who scolded me, also nice people who helped me out, I was nearly quit the job, but eventually I survived.

Now I am too fast, I even have time reply your comments.

Keep going, don’t stop, do more work, once you are on the right track, you will be as efficient as me now. Just remember, it’s not because you are born of slow, you just haven’t discovered the way how to do it efficiently. I believe one day absolutely you can.

Thanks a lot, this really means a lot to me. The company where I am serving for is a forgien trade Co. and I am in charge with 6 cumstomers which include domestic and overseas market now. It is earlier to deal business with foreign customers, but it is really tired to do with domestic customers, too many things need to be done. I just continue to push myself and try to be better.
Thanks again for your kind words.
Wish all the best with you.

INSPIRED BY ALL OF YOU!

Oh my god. I thought I was inspiring people here but in fact, I get inspired by you guys. Lovingfun, Teadrinking, Cicipurple, Sweetolive, etc. How come you guys have such good analytical minds and can write it out so well? What you said are so true. Why torment ourselves and go on a wild goose chase? Life is a journey, not a destination. Our troubles will never end and there will be always something there making us unhappy. Why not look and concentrate at the better side of life? We all should set our priorities and work faithfully towards our dreams and future.

Haha, I agree with your positive value towards how to live a fulfilled life.

It is said a job only pays the rent, after that no further meaning, but your life’s work feels worth doing, no matter get paid or not. That’s all meaning, with the work you are doing, you feel alive, energetic.

Actually, most people are not doing what they like. But I do know one day, who was a medical doctor with nice people around and high paid salary. But she felt something missing in her life, and she didn’t know what’s that, so she did a research, eventually, she found out what’s that missing part. Then she’s from a full time medical doctor to a part time one , only do 2 days a week. The rest of days, she’s making money from what she discovered she’s really passionate about.

The problem is most people even don’t know what their love is, which fits them most. So they think the higher salary, the better.

Thanks, Teadrinking for reading my articles from Englishpassion, I just like set up a goal, no matter what the result is, as if I don’t set it up, life seems very boring to me. Probably that’s my character for achieving something which makes me happy.

It is just a start: Englishpassion, there’s a long way to go, but I will try my best, getting improved each day. If more readers can get inspired from my articles, that would be the best thing I like to know.

Also writing a bit each week, that would be very helpful for me if one day I am interested in writing a book.

It’s also a great space for reminding me what has happened in my life from my writing.
