The first time I heard about multipotentialite was in a TED talk, which was given by Emilie Wapnick. Emilie Wapnick, who is the Founder and Creative Director of Puttylike, brought us a new word "multipotentialite".In her speech ,she told us that she had many different interests ,however she was easy to get bored ,when it hit the point that she got bored in this field, she chose to move on another interest instead of keeping going." Once I no longer feel inspired in a field, I simply move on. Some people call this 'quitting', I call it growth." That is what she thinks about her behavior (Those sentences are from her website, Puttylike). Her speech had struck a responsive chord in the heart of mine.
Then I couldn’t help thinking that maybe I was a multipotentialite too. When I was a young girl, I had a lot of interests, such as painting, flower planting, reading and writing. As time goes by, I develop more hobbies, my interest expand to education, psychology, Chinese traditional culture, travelling. Those adults who always want to give me some advice warm me that I had better focus on one thing because there is a limit to a man. However, a voice rises from my heart, and it tells me that I don’t want to be someone that specializes in one thing. Yes, I am afraid to be a specialist. To be honest, I want to live a colorful life not a grey one. “Fill your heart with curiosity and always stay curious about the world out there.” is my motto. Therefore I agree with Emilie, because we are just what we are, and multipotentiality is a gift from God, then why don’t we embrace the gift inside ourselves?
