Traffic congestion has long been a problem and has given rise to a lot of inconvenience to people's life. Many people complain that they waste too much time on their way home. Traffic congestion results from two main causes. 

The first cause is the great increase in the number of private cars. With the rapid development of economy, more and more people can afford a car and you can see cars far and near. Cars take up more space but carry fewer people. Some major roads are always choked with private cars in rush hours as well as on holiday. What's worse, there are many drivers who ignore the traffic regulations and arbitrarily inconvenience other people. 

The second cause is the inappropriate and inefficient construction of the city roads and streets. The number of traffic and population has increased at great speed but the roads are still unimproved, which has led to problems. 

As we know, even-odd license plate plan has been put into force in several large cities. However, I don't think it will work. So far for me, the first thing we should do is to encourage residents to take public vehicles instead of driving their own cars. Second, the government is bound to invest tremendous energy in road reconstruction to make it appropriate and efficient as much as possible. Also, if necessary, we'd better limit the number of private cars to make room for public buses. It can be beneficial to the environmental protection as well. All in all, it's our responsibility to help ease the traffic congestion and create a more pleasant living environment for everyone.
