Most of us ever told lies for different reasons. Although some lies are malevolent, there are others that lack evil intent, which are called white lies. To some extends, the harmless lies are inevitable and essential in daily life.

You may find that children can even tell lies. According to the study upon children all over the world, lying is really a typical part of development in a person's life. And good lying requires two key ingredients. The first one is the mind-reading ability. It is the ability to know that different people have different ideas in the same situation and to discriminate between what I know and what you know. The second one is self control. It is the ability to control speech, facial expression and body language. As it turns out, those abilities are essential for people to function well in society. Besides, people need to tell white lies to avoid hurting others' feelings or show respects to them. For example, if my friend invites me to have dinner, I will say the food is wonderful though I dislike it. But do remember not to tell lies which are against morals, for the trust and discipline are necessary in society.
