Is a college education worth it?

Hot 52254 views. 2018-4-29 22:05

In recent years, frustration with the economy and high unemployment rates is consistently shaping public opinion that acquiring college education, traditionally thought of as safeguards against unemployment, no longer guarantees gainful positions. In that case, more people question whether a college education is still worth for students. In my viewpoint, a college education is still worth it.

Actually the employment status of college graduates is not optimistic, so some people would attribute this phenomenon to the uselessness of college education. However, they do not realize that with the development of society and economy, only the college education can not satisfy the higher requirements for college students, which means if you want to get a better job, you should further study. But the most important thing is that the college education is the foundation to further study. Without it, you would not have a clear understanding of future employment and life planning.

In fact, some problems are not related to the college education but the use and implementation of education. For one thing, government and universities lack definite positions on college education, so they do not know whether they should continue imparting knowledge or training skills to adapt to the society as a bridge. For another thing, students do not make a proper use of college education. Some students are so fascinated in skipping classes and failing in the subjects in their college life that they will not get jobs successfully.

The root cause of some problems is not college education itself. The way of solving these problems is not talking about whether college education is worth it or not, but how to use the college education to help students get better jobs or payments.

In my opinion, the college education is necessary for people's life with the development of economy. What's more, the college education can not only improve their knowledge but also contribute to their mental mature.

I hold the same opinion with you. A college education is still worth it in today's life. Sometimes, people tend to consider things from the commercial layer instead of a deeper layer(or I prefer call it a spiritual layer). From the short term, we may just assume that a college education can't bring us a steady job. But it doesn't mean it is useless at more. A man who hasbeen educated is definitely different from an uneducated one, especially in one's visual field, in the long run.

That's really true. The key is that undergraduates have to learn how to take advantage of those resources in the university and try everything to improve themselves. Don't think about whether it is worth it or not. JUST do it !

From my perspective, it is.
As G. W. F. Hegel said: what is reasonable is real, college education exists reasonably, while we treat it in a wrong way. What is college?  Is it a factory that produces money-earning machines? No, definitely not. College is a place where human civilization heritage, research, integration and innovation go on. It is beyond argument that a college graduate must learn how to earn money to satisfy his material needs, which is taught in vocational schools as well, but what makes colleges different from vocational schools is that colleges lead students to learn about themselves, about human beings, about society, about the world, and about the universe. Today, as pragmatism is widely recognized, more people, especially those who have not received higher education, cannot agree to this move. They tend to believe university education has lost its competitiveness and becomes worthless.

As far as I'm concerned, it is useless for us who have stayed in college for two years to discuss this questions. What we should discuss is how to make most use of the college life to become better.
