The biggest environmental concern
I had suffered a worst environment 17 years ago.
In the early 2000s, I was living by a smelly canal which flowed through the midst of the city.
At that time, I was usually waken up several times by a stench of the canal during a night.
As I couldn’t stand it, I managed to move to a remote village where is far from town by the lake and live at it until now.
Because of no penalties for littering in my city, the government has to do a lot to persuade people not to litter garbage and try to keep the environment clear.
The Environmental Protection Department even designs propagating slogans like “what thrown from car windows are not only garbage, but also your virtue” beside the roads reminding drivers and passengers that dropping garbage is a shame.
Though the authorities did their best to curb the pollution of the canal and it has become no smelly anymore, I have no intention of moving back, for the biggest environmental concern in town is about water.
As the rivers and lakes have been polluted by industry, people living in town have great difficulty drinking clean water.
The tap water is being felt worried by citizens, for cartloads of disinfectant powder are thrown into it before supply.
Even some of the officials who work for the Water Supply Administration do not drink the tap water.
Most of citizens collect water mainly by two ways: to collect water from streams under mountains nearby, for natural water coming down from mountains is considered clean; or to buy bottled water from a water shop--whenever people make a phone call, workers will bring bottles of water to houses.
In spite of those two methods, there are still a few people who rashly attempt to drink the tap water provided by pipes. This has led plenty of them to suffer from Kidney Stone.
To conclude, water is still the biggest environmental problem in this city.
I hope this issue would soon be solved and all the officials and citizens would be able to drink the same source of water easily.
