Some memories about Gaokao
Yesterday, I stayed at home alone, I had nothing to do except for looking after my baby kid and learning some English.
I was browsing the web with my phone when a push notification popped up on the screen,“gaokao pushed back a month due to outbreak ”.
According to the news issued by the Ministry of Education, the national college entrance examination,or gaokao, will be postponed a month to July 7 to 8 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Swiftly, many friends shared it in WeChat Moments.That reminds me of some memories in my past life about gaokao.
Gaokao, many Chinese people compare the highly competitive exam to crossing a narrow bridge,because for many students, especially in rural areas,enrollment at a university is an opportunity to change their future.
On June 6 to 7, 2008, I took the college entrance examination for the first time in my life.In that year, three unforgettable events happened in my country: the snow and ice disaster, Wencuan earthquake and Beijing Olympic Games.
It's a pity that my first gaokao got a failure, which gave rise to my second gaokao on June 6to7,2009.And then in September,fortunately,I was admitted to the College of Science and Technology of Guizhou university as an English major.
Just as the very moment that it's the 60th anniversary of National Day. In the morning on October 1st, I was watching the 60th anniversary military parade at an internet cafe near my college.
Turn to the college entrance examination in 2017, I had an opportunity to be one of numerous invigilators for it.
In the examination room with 30 examinees, there was a big difference between in the mindset of me and them.For me,as an invigilator, I expected time to run faster and end the ordeal early.But for the examinees, they definitely hope the time pass slowly so that they have enough time to think and answer questions.
Then to gaokao in 2018, My character as to be an invigilator as well.
I have to talk about the college entrance examination in 2019, my own first batch students took it.I couldn't be an invigilator this year, because as an English teacher of Senior 3, l must avoid being an invigilator for gaokao. The only thing I can do was to make a silent blessing for all my students.
About gaokao in 2019, there was a episode worth being mentioned.I can remember the last English lesson before the college entrance examination, I didn't give a lecture, just casually chatting with my students.Toward the end of class, I said:
"You look at books more, Let me look at you more!"
After the bell rings for class over, the whole class stood up and bowed deeply to me.
Then made a farewell to each other.
On June 6,2019, the first day of gaokao, after the Chinese test, I got a message from my student, her message saying "Mr.Liu, you are awesome. You have unexpectedly guessed the topic of the composition this year".
I was puzzled by what she said.
A few minutes later, after all Chinese Examination Papers were released on the internet, I had looked into the Chinese Examination Papers-3 of gaokao. Its topic of the composition is a cartoon in which it was a teacher who was having the last lesson for her students before their graduation and on the cartoon were the words:"You look at books more, I look at you more".
"You look at books more,I look at you more(你们多看看书，我再看看你们！)"
In the last lesson for my students before their graduation, I hadsaid the same words.
But all of us didn't expect that it would be the topic of the composition in the Chinese Examination Paper-Ⅲ of Gaokao .
I have written too much, it's time to give a ending.
