the past

My first trip to dalian city was my happiest trip in my past life.

It was 8th December in 2005. I can’t remember the exact date now. I was a junior student in campus then, never got a chance of leaving my hometown, never had a chance of travelling by train. Everything I did was my first time.

I spent 10 hours waiting for the train in Beijing station. I gave her a call to tell her I was on the way and would arrive in dalian the next morning. In fact, I hit dalian at 7 o’clock on the second day.

Getting out of the dalian station, I didn’t know where to go, I didn’t know where was the suburb. But I was so anxious to see her that I ignored to watch carefully in the suburb waiting room after getting off the suburb. I hang around in the street, thinking she must be late. I could not go too far away from the suburb station, because I was afraid of losing meeting her. At last, I got back to the waiting room, where I saw a lovely girl with a yellow coat anxiously standing beside the seats. It was her. I called her name. She ran to me, holding my arm, walking to the residence she arranged for me. I had a glance at her face, fearing looking at her directly, fearing impoliteness. She was so delicate, small face, small ears, small nose, small mouth, and small hands and feet. Everything seemed perfect, much more beautiful than expected.

We walked into the room, sitting on the bed, talked little. The telephone rang. It was her best friend, Yu.

She took me to her favorite shopping center, Ansheng, the top floor of which was a “street” which she called “lovers’ street”. On the half way, we saw a wedding suit for a bride lying in the cabinet. She was so excited. She said she would wear that suit on her wedding day.

Soon the evening came. We went to a restaurant, ordered something to eat. The most delicious dish which I couldn’t forget was fish. It was sweet. The most important, she liked it.

There was a square at back of the hotel, it was called “conch square”. It was small, but quiet. We saw children playing on the ground. I felt peaceful, because she was sitting at my side.

In the hotel that evening, I kissed her. It was my first kiss, so was hers, fascinating.

The second day.

“there’s a place you can’t miss when you came to dalian”, she said, “the place is called square of seas of stars.” We had to go to the railway station, and then took a bus to the famous seas of stars.

Just a few hundreds meters away from the station laid a shopping center, the Korea Street. The funny thing was that we saw a big bear sitting in a chair, very big, bigger than me. She laughed to me, said, “see? You are sitting in a chair.” Funny, en?

We got the star sea. The very first image of it was large, so large a square it is. There was a castle lay on a small hill beside the square, a bridge across a river connected the hill and the square. At the end of the square lay a road about 20 or 30 meters long, with hundreds of foot prints on it. It was called “ Dalian 100 years”. It was in memory of people who created the city.

There were several photographers hanging around on the platform which extended the star sea square in to the sea. We took a few photos, with several poses, which I threw away after breaking up with her, which I feel so regretful now.
