Having entered the 21st century, the world is witnessing breath-taking changes. In this competitive and ever-accelerated society, choosing a desirable job is becoming increasingly complicated. Teachers, as what thought to be the architects of human soul, are under continuous debate. Some proposed the idea that teachers should be paid by how their students perform. From my perspective, this new policy has some advantages but it is not an informed decision and should not be adopted after thorough reflection.
Admittedly, paying for the teachers according to the performance of the students can help to encourage the teachers to improve their behavior. In order to earn more salary, they need to expand their horizon and be exposed to the latest news as well as technologies. Besides, teachers ought to adapt themselves to the current society which is so different from what they have experienced. Learning skills to communicate with kids, mastering strategies to manage classes, having a more profound understanding of the textbook are all the immediate tasks for teachers to accomplish. As a result, it is undoubtedly that it is the students who will benefit from this policy.
Nevertheless, the policy of paying the teachers based on how well the students done exert baneful impacts on both the teachers and the students. To begin with, it is unavoidable that some teachers will deceive the school by lower the level of education in order to earn more money. For example, they may intend to prepare easier exam papers or providing a pass score to the students who are definitely unconcerned about their study. Once our school conducted a research on the performance of the staffs by asking the students to fill out one form for each teacher. Surprisingly, the outcome shown that all of the teachers have won a tremendous popularity among the students even those who are employed just for a month. Finally, it turned out that a few of the teachers cheated by promising to give all the students in their classes extra credit. It is certain that it is the students who are sacrificed.
Besides, this new policy also poses great threat to the teachers who are faithful to the school and to the students. Because some teachers gained more credit and salary even through bribe, those who are honest may be laid off. It is highly possible that some of them are quite eminent and prestigious. If they are fired, not only the school will loose rare educational resources but the teachers will be doubted even their future career will be ruined. Thus, paying teacher by the outcomes of their students cannot show the teachers true value.
From what has been discussed above, it is indisputable that paying teachers by how excellent the students are may stimulate the upgrading of education if adopted properly. However, taking more considerations into account, this new policy are subjected to numerous risks and practical measures should be taken.
