    The cell death induced by Nampt knockdown has characteristic features of apoptosis mediated through a mitochondrion-dependent mechanism but not mecrosis or autophagic cell death because (1) the cell death was accompanied by cytochrome c release and inhibited by Bcl-xL; (2)there was no increase in propidium iodide-positive nuclei or hairpin 2 ligation-positive cells,and (3)the cell death was not accompanied by increases in autophagy.
