Anything wrong with this advertisement?

An advertisement by the Police department in Zhengzhou in central China's Henan province.
"Policewomen wanted by our department. Must be young, pretty, tall (over 1.6m), Age 18-22. Contract ends when you reach age 26. Welcome young girls to apply now."
This kind of advertisement is illegal in many countries because it is openly discriminating against age, looks and height. All these things are appearance related and has nothing to do with work abililty. It is surprising that a government department can discriminate like that.

- summerjiang: TThat's the reality!Reality can't be like this. Favouritsm towards any any group is unacceptable. We cannot choose our looks or height so it is wrong to deny us the chance because of this. Seems this kind of attitude is still in some province but in the more advance provinces, this is not allowe.

- you're absolutely right！how could they put in such an advertisement? what they need should be work ability not good looks! and it is something a person is born with, if our looks are not as good as others, it's not my fault. it's unfair! it's sheer discrimination against age llooks and height!

They should be stopping such unfair things but instead, they are encouraging it. There was also a similar advertisment/notice saying there are lot of pickpocket petty thieves from "Hunan". The notice was taken down after people protested.

- you are right~ But in our country , this kind of advertisement can be found everywhere. Good appearance always help you get a good job and means high salary. Maybe it can be changed but it must take a long time.

- from my perspective, government department gain the peroper ability or right to choose their staffs who ,to some extent, are another kind of spokesman of government. This advertisement is acceptable and reasonable in my mind, in other words, presence is reasonable.

- I agree with sady's standpoint, one of the pivotal parts of the policewoman's daily work is to set up a health image to show public, so, the outline of policewoman is foundational request for employment.

- vam: In China,it'extremely normal.I know these advertisements are often seen in China but how can it be called "normal"? It is in fact abnormal. Is it acceptable to you?

- The US is supposed to be free, but I know of these stories. One business owner, who was also a state representative in the state legislature once told me, "You should change your religion, then I would hire you." Another told my father, when my father was 45 years old, "You are too old for construction work. I won't hire you." In the past, in the US, women were told they could not work some jobs, even during my lifetime. Of course, as a child I saw restrooms and water fountains with signs saying "Whites only" meaning blacks, Mexicans, Chinese, and other "colored" people could not use them. I'm confident China will change too. Even now, there's Sarah Palin and "the real Americans." I think she should find her other three "real Americans" and start a band. She could call it "Sarah Palin and the Real Americans." (That's a joke, of course, meaning there are only three other people who think like she does).
