Hong Kong dependant on mainland China

1203 views. 2012-6-6 15:17 |

Hong Kong is dependant on mainland China for survival. Most of the industry here at present are service related industries depending on tourist and visitos from mainland who often spend millions of yuan buying watches, jewellery and clothings. The property market, restaurants, stock market and banks are kept alive by investment from the rich investors and visitors from mainland China. Recent months, we are seeing less visitors from the mainland and this is quite worrying. I do hope they keep coming to Hong Kong.

In the 1980's most of the factories here moved to South China which helped China become the world's major manufacturing country in the world.

In the 1950's and 1960's, China supplied Hong Kong with rice and all types of food despite food shortage in China, like a caring mother to a child. China also supplied Hong Kong with precious water for the past 50 years. I grew up on these food and water and I am grateful. China allowed Hong Kong to prosper in peace without intervention. Even after Hong Kong returned to China, the motherland allowed Hong Kong to go on with it's accustomed western system. Beijing kept it's promise and allowed Hong Kong to run on it's own. Accordingly, Hong Kong remained a world city. Most Hong Kong people have strong attachment to the motherland.

We now have a new leader, Chief Executive Mr. Leung Chun Ying who has the support of the Beijing authorities and Hong Kong residents. His policies appear workable and caring for every sector of the Hong Kong community. Hong Kong is know as the land of the fortunate and we do hope it would continue to prosper along with the motherland.

Hope all of you could come and visit this fantastic city and keep us going.

I never have to chance to visit HK. It is said that the working pace in HK is faster than in Shenzhen and the living cost is also higher.

Wish you could visit Hong Kong. It does not cost a lot of money and you are most welcome here. Just come and take a look. Yes, you are right, Hong Kong is the city of action. There are lots of pressure in work and living because things go very fast here. Life is not too bad and we have lots of freedom to do what we want to do. The cost is living is high but the income is also high. A simple office worker earns 12,000 yuan per month but the rent is aveage 8,000 per month. It cost 4 million to buy your own home. However, education is free and good medical services are free. There is little or no tax. It is easy to start your own business here and most people are successful.

you are really lucky to live in such a prosperous place. the attachment between hongkong and mainland is mutual, we are proud to have a place of freedom and wealth like Hongkong, while in turn Hongkong propered ever more with the support from the mainland. wish a bright future for both Hongkong and the mainland.

Maybe big cities have more opportunity to start business and create maricles. As an normal office clerk, it is very hard to buy an apartment in HK, perhaps some pop star are also have  their own living pressure. They always show the perfect side to their fans.

I do hope some day i will have a chance to visit Hongkong. we've heard about it so much and for so long. it's known as the pearl in the east. yes the mainland and the Hongkong are now closely related in almost every field. we're a big family.
several months ago my wife and some of her friends made a tour of the city with a tourist group. she said it was worthwhile to pay a visit. i guess the case of a local guide forcing tourists to buy things in Hongkong really left a bad impression. Hongkong is shopping paradise, as some people call it, so shopping can be part of the travel, but it should be done of one's own accord. hopefully things are much better now.

Yes, come to HK at least 1 time for a visit. You do not need to spend much money. Take the bus or train to Shenzhen/Hong Kong. It is easy for you. Just stay at the cheaper youth hostels and walk aroung the city. Even one or two days is also ok. Come when you have time.

Oh what a pity, you are so near and not yet visited HK. The paperwork is not complicated. All you have to do is to get a HK visit permit and you are ready to travel. It does not cost a lot either, all you have to do is to take a train or bus, stay at low-cost girl's hostel and walk around for two days. You only spend a few hundred yuan and can see the real HK. You are always welcome. Cheers.

I am not crazy about shopping. Nor am I fond of visiting a modern city with tall buildings. But I do want to pay a visit to HK. Currently I have a friend there, a Shenzhen native who studies in the HKU. And another friend is going to pursue postgraduate study. Hope I can have a chance to visit either of them this year.

I hope to visit HK for the book fair next year.
Reply sunnyv 2012-7-22 13:11
Yeah come to the HK book fair. There are plenty of books and lots of other things to see, depending on your interest. You should note that  the place is quite crowded because HK is a small place. You would enjoy it anyway and you are most welcome.
