i feel exactly the same. i think of the song called yesterday once more, i like it very much just because it says what is in my heart. "those were such happy times and not so long ago. how i wonder where they'd gone." maybe i'm getting old and no longer young, i just cannot help thinking of the wonderful happy times, as you said, so simple so genuinely happy despite the fact we didn't have all those fancy gadgets. i like your simile. compared to nature and the development of society, we are so tiny so powerless so impotent. our life is getting better and better, but the distance between people seems to be farther apart. is it the price we have to pay for the development? we cannot change the world, but we can adjust ourselves and make a difference to everything around us. deep in our heart we should have a happy heart and always keep our dreams alive no matter what happens. just as you said: to live a happy life to the best of our ability. i've just got back from my home village and right now i can hear the sounds of firecrackers and fireworks, so i hope you can celebrate the festival with all of us. happy chinese new year!

rich 2011-1-30 19:03: i read your comment on the spring festival, which aroused my recalling, how nice to have a new year! this feeling remained in my mind for many years. the wonderful childhood scenes are kind of still fresh, yet remote now. nice meals, red packets, no school work just play visiting relatives...so many cozy memories!how carefree we used to be! how truly happy, though we were much worse-off at that time. now things are totally different. new year means one year older and possibly more responsibilty. the only thing i value is the time when i can relax and meet the "long lost"friends and relatives. it is always nice to be together and talk and update my old information. life is so fast-moving and precious!
