Yang Jiyuan, a junior student from Zhejiang University of Technology, was stabbed to death on December 31, 2009, while wrestling with four thieves in Hangzhou. He was only 22 years old.
At 10:30 pm that night, many students were buying night snacks at the gate of a milky tea store on Desheng Road, according to a witness. Suddenly, the witness saw a tall-and-thin male student was wrestling with four men, which she thought they must have been fighting. But, after a while, a man pulled out a dagger and yelled at the student, shouting,"Don't move. I will stab whoever goes forward." At that time, because there were many students at the scene, nobody felt scared. Unfortunately, a few minutes later, the witness saw the student felt down and never got up by himself from the ground.
The student was Yang Jiyuan who lost his life for the benefit of other people. In his blog, he wrote,"A man may have no talent, may have no money, but may not have no responsibility."
It's the sense of responsibility that makes the modern university student do significant things bravely for people and society. He deserves our respect.
The new year has come, but he will never see the sunlight any more. Let's pray for him. May his soul rest in peace. Yang Jiyuan Farewell Ceremony
