Reduce Salt Intake

I have just read a news from the New York Times that New York city plans to unveil a health initiative to curb salt in food. It will encourage restaurants and food manufactures to gradually curtail the amount of salt in their products. The goal is to reduce salt by 25% over the next five years.
Scientists say excessive consumption of salt can lead to high blood pressure and other heart dieases.
In China, many people like to have salty food due to dietary habit. We must admit that salt plays many roles in food, enhancing flavor, preventing spoilage and improving shelf life. But, there is an old Chinese saying, "Too much water drowned the miller." Intaking too much salt really does great harm to health, especially to the elders'.
As the Spring Festival is coming, I am here to recommend you, my dear friends, reduce salt consumption by yourself, and more importantly, persuade your parents and relatives to lower the salt intake when you go home to spend the holidays.
