Two Million Awarded

"I want to make my parents live a better life," said Zhou Yang after she won the gold medal of the 2010 Winter Olympics in women's 1500 meter speed skating.

Zhou's wish would come true.  She would be awarded at least 2,000,000 yuan by Jinlin provincial government, Changchun city hall and the district government.  The gold medal is the first Olympic gold medal won by a citizen of
Jinlin.

The mayor of Changchun paid a visit to Zhou Yang's parents and congratulated on Zhou's achievement on behalf of the city government, saying her performance brought the city honor and reputation and should be amply awarded.

Besides the mayor's promise, an airline company presented two tickets for the parents to meet with their daughter in Beijing in a few days.

The 18-year-old gold medalist's parents are running a station selling lottery tickets to make a living, and she only got her monthly salary of 500 yuan before she went to Vancouver to take part in the Olympics, according to media.
