Since the beginning of this year, the earth has been upsetting. On January 3, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 hit the Soloman Island; a magnitude 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti on Jan. 12; and then, there was an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.0 in the Ryukyu Island; and 10 hours later, Chile got attacked by a magnitude 8.8 quake. Is our globe unusual?
As a matter of fact, there are about 5 million earthquakes happening every year, at an average of more than 10,000 times for each day, however, most of which are not being perceived. According to statistics, for every year, there are over 200 strong earthquakes with the magnitude of 6 and above; 20 with the magnitude of 7 plus, and about 3 with the magnitude of more than 8.
An earthquake is a natural phenomenon, but its consequences are awful. The Sichuan earthquakes in 2008 took lives of more than 80,000, which was a great tragedy for China and the Chinese people.
