"I think fairness and justice are brighter than the sunlight," Premier Wen told the reporters from home and abroad at the NPC press conference this morning.
Justice means giving each person what he or she deserves or, in more
traditional terms, giving each person his or her due. Justice
and fairness
are closely related terms that are often today used
interchangeably.
With the rapid development of China's economy, the social fairness and justice becomes more and more significant. Nowadays, justice is no longer a castle in the air, but the basic demand for the average people. People need to be treated equally, and must be treated the same.
Just like what Premier Wen said, there is social injustice in our country. For example, the migrant workers are paid less, and soemtimes could not get their payments on time. Their children could not go to school like those who live in the cities. It's obvious that they get the different treatment, which is a kind of injustice.
Fairness and justice are a kind of social value and ethics, which people have been seeking and upholding constantly. As the
philosopher Immanuel Kant and others have pointed out, human
beings are
all equal in this respect: they all have the same dignity, and
in virtue
of this dignity they deserve to be treated as equals.
One month ago, Premier Wen also told the media that people should live a better life with more dignity. Only with social fairness and justice can people live a dignified life.
