I will use public chopstickes depends on who I am dining with.

When I have meal with my family and some close friends, I don't think that using public chopstickes is good. For family members and close friend, a pair of chopsticks will separate each other. It has  a possibility the we share dilicacies as well as potential  infection。We are chinese and have our own culture, we have our own way to eat, and share is a good performance of chinese historical cultural heritage. We have to respect it. There are also some extreme cases, some of my friend also share food with their pet. Why can't we share food using our own chopsticks with our close friend and family member.

On the other hand, when I dining with some clients and new friend, I would propose using public one. It dose not mean I am a cleanliness extrimist.But I think it is a respect of those new friends. We dine togeter to share new friendship and admiration instead of salver. The more new friends I have and the more "public chopsticks" I and my new friend need.

Old friendship roots in new friendship. Time can test everything. Maybe the sign of the friendship change is putting away "public chopsticks". It is common sense that if some get cold and have some infective illness, no matter who they are family member, friends well known or not,  i suggest they sleep at home and eat individually untill they recover.
