As is known to us all, the students’ creativity is emphasized in the society. They say creativity is one of the most important qualities for students to make contributions to the society and our country. Creativity is the source for us to make some innovative ideas and products.

But how can schools encourage creativity in students is still a subject for us to study. We all think that schools are where the students improve their qualities, so it’s important that schools should be responsible for them. As far as I am concerned, schools should stick to the following principles:

1.     Schools should tend to promote creativity. With strong emphasis on test scores, schools won’t do better in improving students’ creativity. They should not sacrifice creativity for high scores and correct answers but encourage students to think differently and speak themselves. On the other hand, schools should supply more opportunities for students to take part in creative activities.

2.     Teachers should combine the basics with activities where the students must use their imagination. We all know that the imagination is essential for new ideas, so that the teachers should develop new approaches to teaching which can help the students to improve their imagination.

3.     Teachers should encourage students’ crazy ideas and these ideas should be honored and valued. Just these wild ideas may make great contribution to students’ creativity so that teachers should encourage children and praise them rather than dismiss them or hurting their self-confidence. So teachers must emphasize the point for the sake of students’ creativity.

4.     Teachers should pay attention to their students’ independence. They should not help students all the time. They could give some suggestions to students but not deal with the problems themselves. In this way, students may develop their independence to sort out approaches to solve problems. This is also important for their creativity.

The above principles may not be enough for schools to encourage creativity in students, but I think these are the basic ones to stick to. I wish schools could go on to develop new approaches to teaching which will be more practical for students’ creativity.
