My First Internship Was Unforgettable

460 views. 2009-11-21 08:25 |Individual Classification:thought|

2008 is definitely an unforgettable meaningful year for all the Chinese people. As for me, this year is also very special. Not only because the Beijing Olympic Games, but also because I finished my first internship at Xi’an Evening News in summer holiday. My internship lasted almost a whole month from July 10th to August 7th. It is definitely a precious experience in my life, and maybe it determined the direction of my career.

I practiced at Social Journalism Department, and my teacher named Zhang Zhijie. Every day, from 9a.m to 6p.m is my internship time. My job contains searching for news sources, telephoning the interviewee, interviewing and writing the report. Sometimes, I finished my duty in dependently, and sometimes I did it with the help from my teacher.

I still remember my first interview, it happened in an hot afternoon. My teacher led me out to a hospital, we went to interview a victim of a traffic accident. The responsible driver had ran away without any witness, and the victim was settled down in the hallway with simple dealing with the wounded leg. I felt terribly sick, not for his wounds, but for his unfortunate suffering. After finishing the interview, I thought a lot. As a journalist, especially as a social news journalist, you’ll have to face many such kind of tragedies, but you can hardly do anything to change it. It needs courage to finish your job.

A few days later, another interview gave me a fresh idea about being a journalist. That day, a college student called my teacher and told him that she had been cheated by a fraudulent consultancy. She insisted that the company charged her 100 yuan with a promise to provide her with part-time job opportunity. However, to her surprise, the company had never contacted her ever since took her money. As a consequence, my teacher decided to disguise him as a college student, and took me together go to that company. It was a secret apartment belonging to a building, and that seemed weird. I went into this company with my heart beating heavily. What if they found out that we are journalists? Would they beat us and drive us away? I was so nervous that I can hardly say any word, while my teacher was communicating with a manager. Finally, my teacher exposed his real place and intention. As a result, the manager gave back the 100 yuan to the girl. And fortunately, we were safe. This time, I recognized the power of the media, and I was so proud of having helped the college girl.

Here is the point, every coin has its two sides. To be a journalist means you will take a lot responsibilities, and you will face many things that you dislike to face with. However, at the same time, you will also play an important part in the society, which means you can help a lot people. So, I decided to become a journalist in the future, no matter how hard it will be, and no matter what challenge may waiting for me.
