Why the staff in Foxconn choose suicide?

690 views. 2010-5-30 17:29 |

Yesterday I met my friends after dinner, and they told me that many suicides occur in Foxconn,I also heard about that from the news,it seems that a new suicide happen again on 27th MAY.this is the 13rd dumping.and the boy only 25 years old,he choose cut his wrist for suicide,I was wondering how did he have this great courage?? does he think about his parents? if he die,his father and mother would be heartbroken...most of the deceased were young people, they have plenty of times to achieve successes, but why they considered taking their own lives?
Many people thought there must be the reasons of management in Foxconn, expecially the salary pay for the employee.the company would be very bad and treat the workers harsh and cruel.but I don't think so,Foxconn was a big company in China,it must be a well-managed enterprise.but how does their staff want to suicide?

Everything there has a reason. It is said that the low salary and the cruel treatment lead to this tragedy. The company totally deprived the workers of their dignity, in this situation, less people can get through it.

Foxconn uses the mechanical or machine like management method. This is mentined in the news. Workers are just like machines, keep on working, no talking, no cellphones, limited rest time even when there is no work to do. They also encourage the works to do long  overtime hours. As a result it is all work and nothing much else. The working place is modern so workers still want to work there. The salary paid is also only enough to survive so forget about enjoying with the salary you make. Go on like this, anyone would be crazy. These few days the company increased the salary of everyone by 200 Rmb. Now lets see what happens. I really hope those workers calm down. It is not working losing a life because of this.

I also noticed that too, but I don't think the company was the only one to be blamed, there are still many workers there in Foxconn, they are alive! So there must be some problems with the young workers themselves. I use "young" here since I have noticed that none of this suisiders were beyond 30s. Maybe they were just too young to suffer this kind of work, maybe they had an easy life before  going to Foxconn, so the work style there was obviously beyond their imagination, so they chose their own way to defend.

But I think they chose a totally wrong way, there should be many ways to slove any problems besides suiside, anyway, nothing is better than living in the world, how could they give up life so easily, have they thought about their parents who took more than 20 years to bring them up, they even hadn't repay them, even for this reason, they should live!

Too many jumpers have already made a fashion...

Fairy0612, I cannot agree with you.
Is slavery to be condemned? Did all slaves died?
It's absurd of your logic that Foxconn should not be blamed just for most workers are still alive.
Indeed, Foxconn is just a modern prison of slaves. Haven't you heard Foxconn planned to prevent them from jumping by imposing iron web around their dormitory? They want to even deprive the workers of their choice of death instead of improving a tiny bit their living condition.

Great company? What great?
I can say it's a huge monster.
I ever visited a famous Japanese invested factory in China.
Chinese workers in a workshop work every  day under the sight of a Japanese monitor who sit in a watch room with glass wall of all directions.
The actions of each worker is recorded and limited by a time management system, which even indicates the times and summary time of going WC.
I also experienced a Taiwannese owned software company, which of an industry depend on human resource and employee's innovation. But most of the staff seldom speak, nor communicate,
they even have been turned in IT slaves or robots for they are treated so. Obviously their happiness and activity has been strangled by the discipline of the company.
Most of The employees here are graduates.
So I think I can imagine how they treat those yokel workers.

Yeah that could be true. What a pity that young life is lost just like that. Hope there will be no more suicides. The news has already rocked the world.

Whatever the excuses, the Foxconn is to blame. Harsh conditions and less pay are not unusual in many companies, but why there are no reported serial suicides in others? One spokesman used emotional disturbance as the cause, which is rather ridiculous. Chinese people are the most stoic people in the world. We have experienced deprivation, depredation and despotism time and again since immemorial times, but so far no such instances reported.  I hold Foxconn accountable for these innocent lives except that they could cite other similar examples in other places, or even in ancient times.
