If I cannot become American, I would like to be the father of an American

<p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;">I was born in China. It is not as awesome as being born in the USA. Despite frequent shooting cases, I regard America as an earthly paradise. No matter how much English I learn, I cannot become a USA citizen. Because of this inability, i decided to be less American, since I cannot become American. That is, to be an aspiring polyglot, to learn as many languages as I can.</span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;">One of my foes has obtained American nationality for a long time. Now he lives in Houston , and speaks like an American. When I found out about this, I felt like I lost in the race of life. He was born superior to me, as he was born in Shanghai , while I was born in an economic lagging behind province in china.&nbsp;</span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;">I feel the equilibrium when I come to think of my multilingual skills. Now I am able to write in three Romance languages. Now that is something remarkable. I felt some kind of compensation for the regret of my inability to become American.</span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;">However, I have thought about an alternative to myself becoming American. That is, to be the father of a USA citizen. If my future wife or my future mistress delivers our child in Los Angeles, I would be able to be the father of an American citizen. I think that would be just awesome!</span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><font face="Helvetica" size="3"><span style="line-height: normal;">If this doesn't work out, I would like to reincarnate as American in my next life. To accomplish this, please bury me in Los Angeles when I die.</span></font></p>

It is really distressing to hear what you say about wanting to be American. Do you know what is the biggest regret in my life? Having an American Green Card, that is what it is. ! I got the green card for ease of travel and because of political uncertainties. I am a British Citizen and have no desire to live in USA. Later when I went to USA, I found that United States is not the country I want to live in. My first choice is my birthplace, Hong Kong and second is my country of citizenship, UK.

The main reasons why I don't like USA is because of the government interference in daily lives, no privacy, unkempt street sleepers, drug addicts, violence everywhere, hostile immigration officers, customs and police. They try to frame people just to show that they are doing a good job. Do you know that you cannot take a picture of any government building and they arrest you if you do. That is what people did got into trouble. An intimate photo of you and your wife can land you in jail for possession of pornography, so cleanup your phone before going there. In Hawaii, if you stay at the beach after midnight, they would arrest you. So many people got a criminal record just because of this and who would know there are such rules at a beach. Finally, if you want to give up your Green Card and leave the USA, you would find it is hell. They make you pay an exit tax of 20% of any property you own. There would be huge fines or prison for any rule you fail to satisfy and in the end they strip you of everything you own before letting you go. So, I am force to remain a US resident fearing the extortion of the US authorities.

Why would you want to become an American. Live in Europe for a good future.

I can fully understand your feelings to some extent. But I also have different view about nationality. I am very proud that I am a chinese. I have a chance to get a nationality in Uk. But I didn't recieve it. For, even if I own the nationality, if I cannot support myself,  I don't think the nationality will accounts.
Sunnyv tell you a lot from his exprience , he is far more objective. If you still hold your ground, I hope that you can make it.

Same like you, I am also proud to be associated with China. I gladly display my passport page which shows my place of birth as China. Although being born in China, a socialist country, I often face problems and questions when crossing borders, I feel I am better off than those living in repressive countries like USA. At my personal risk, I have often shamed and lectured border officials about their negative views of Far East and China. They think anyone from Asia is likely to be an illegal immigrant. I had to tell them to keep their own house in order before suspecting other countries. Try to control your own gun violence in USA before criticizing others.

Actually, you should have taken up UK citizenship when you had the chance and become a dual national like me. UK is a truly free and civilized country. Well, I think your strong nationalistic considerations for China is a deciding factor. which is fine and respectable, so just remember, the moon and stars adre the same everywhere. Home is where you are.

Wow, I have never imagined that lives in USA would be so. Though I have gained some ideas from movies that there will be drug addicts, violence and pornography, I have never thought that lives would be so difficult there in America. The so-called freedom seems to be disappeared. Some of my teachers who had ever been in foreign countries told us ever that living in our country is better than living in other countries, enjoying the embraces and hugs of people in our own country. Well, to be frank, I held a questioning attitude towards this at that time. But now it seems true! Europe will be a good choice for living because of the perfect welfare systems there. But will those systems be kept in the future? Because it seems to be difficult to maintain right now. Really no offense. And by the way, I had been thinking that you were a female until I found the comment by lovingfun! :P Very sorry for that!

When I was young, relatives around me claimed that if there was a chance, they really wanted to live in the foreign countries for a time. And I too hoped that I could be a foreigner who conquers a good master of English this language and spells loudly and correctly blablablabla etc. That is really cool! I lived in a small city before. And now people in the city are still worshiping a living in a foreign country. But when I grew up and probed in depth this matter, thinking that if I really am given a chance to go abroad and live there and even change my nationality to England or USA, I will not do so. On the one hand, I have been here since I was born with my families and friends, there are many relationships I really do not want to let go. Here is the place which bear my memories and my feelings. On the other hand, I love China and the love for her could not be interpreted and revealed easily. Yes, she has many to be improved, but we could not leave her because of her tiny imperfections. Just like my mother, my brothers and I would never abandon her because she looked stupid and poor. I do not know the reasons why you want to be an American so eagerly, but from your explanation here, I think you want to be because you was provoked by the inequality between you and your foes while you wanted to show yourself but lacked a chance. Just enjoy the lives there before you have a chance to go outside, maybe that is not the place you want to go.

To be honest, migrating to the USA used to be a wise things to do PREVIOUSLY, when there was a lacking of everything in China and plentiful in the USA. These days no Chinese person would be happy living permanently in the US. I am a British person and people think I can fit in easier, but I can tell you it is not true. The big businesses are control and monopolize everything and only they can run those businesses. It is very hard to start your own business unless you are rich. There are not many jobs available, even if you are well educated. You can only do labor jobs, like cutting grass, car-washing, movers, car repair and those labor work. Even working at Mcdonald, they need a university graduation degree. Hairdresser or nail polisher require licences. Even if you are successful or earn some money, the tax will take a big share from you. The tax rules are so complicated that you can easily and unknowingly break the law and become a criminal. A lot of regular employees I come across don't earn enough money and they spend on credit card borrowing. Homes are expensive and they lost their homes easily because it is hard to pay the mortgage. Some people are nice and pleasant on the outside but can be quite rough when it comes to money or material things. You can't trust the police, the courts and customs. People there are increasingly violent. You won't feel safe there. You will keep asking your, ''why am I here in the USA'' and that is what I asked myself too. Now I can't even cut the ties to America because they make it so difficult to give up your residency. I am stuck.

Many rich Chinese are using a lot of money applying to live in the USA. I really feel sorry for them because they just don't know that someday, if they decide to leave, it will not be so easy. They would strip you of everything before they let you go. I feel so bad to criticize US country which was my dream country, but I never realized that it could be so regrettable.

So, there must be something good about USA, right? The good things are homes are large and looks good, but most people can't afford them. Some of the older traditional Americans are quite nice and if you work hard, you can still earn enough for your meals and simple living. All these things, we already have here in China, so go there to USA for what?

Oh, godness! It is like prison without freedom, safety and stability.
But now many are spending their money on the education in Canada, Australia and UK etc. instead of America.
And now you have led your lives in HK here now right?

Yes, I am living permanently here in HK and would not live anywhere else except UK where I intend to live when I become older. HK is a city of finance and action where everything move fast and people are endlessly chasing wealth. Nevertheless, I still love HK and this is my home.
