American English or British English

581 views. 2010-6-19 22:42 |

American English and  British English, which do you prefer? And can you tell the exact differences between them? Which one sounds more beautiful and more easy to learn?
For the past few days, by watching films, I found myself fall in love with English. That time, I didn't realise whether it is a American English or a  British English, I just found it beautiful to sound. I tried to imitate them, then I found something strange.
When men speak British English, it sounds beautiful, I like to listen to it and try to imitate it, but then I found it is less beautiful to be sounded when spoken by women. I don't know whether you have the same discovery with me. My roommates once said that she doesn't like British English, they speak as if to have their mouths half open, it is not comfortable to be heard. It is true with women speakers, but when comes to men, I didn't think that would be a problem, I still think it is beautiful.
And American English, no matter it is said by men or women, it sounds both beautiful. And I think American English would be easier for us Chinese to learn, for we don't have to keep our tongue flat all the time when speaking. And it is just to my taste, so I think  I'd prefer to learn American English.
What about you? What's your attitudes towards these two? Which do you prefer to speak? And how do you like them? Can tell me?

By the way, someone once said that the fond size of my blogs were too small to read? How do you feel? If most of you here feel it uncomfortable to read in the present size, I will change them to a larger one.

hey, fairy!actually,my pronounciation more like a american accient.but i affected by the middle school and high school study,so,some of the words pronounced in a british way.i can distinguish these 2 accients.i think british pronounciation is shorter and faster than the american accient.and british one doesn't go up and down so obviously.so~flat.i tried to imitate british accient, but just for fun.and i found that really hard... ...anyway,i didn't pay much attention on accient. As long as you pronounciate it in a standard way,and make your speaking flow.and have a certain rhythm---that's nice!and you will have your own style... ...unique and beautiful!

I do not understand the differences between American English and British English too.
I have a friend who is a British, and I remember that he said American English sounds not good. It is a ordinary English.
And British English is a blue-blooded English.
I think maybe he said above because of he is a British.

After the second war, all students of China learn British English.
But now, American English is more popular than British English in China.
I want to learn British English if I am able to distinguish them.

By the way, I think it is perfect if you use a bigger font size.

Hey, joshuaD, thanks for your comment. I agree with you that British English is flatter than American ones. And I just don't think I can speak it well, I have accustomed to using my tongue up and down all the way, I will feel uncomfortable if I force it to be flat all the time. I still say some British words, though.

I don't care much which accent I sound like, I just want to sound beautiful, at least to please me.

I think he must love his country very much, and feel pround of being a British. But it is true that British English sounds beautiful.

American English is popular all around the world now, I think. And I prefer to use American English unlike you, for it will make me uncomfortable to force my tongue to keep flat all the time when speaking British English, what's more, when I speaks British English, I am not sound beautiful.

Yeah. I myself don't like large fond size, for it will take the room leaves for the space, made the article look crowded. Anyway, articles are for reading, if more people required to use a larger size, I'll change.

The English information I contact everydays seems to be American English, like TV dramas and movies. I'm not so like the pronounciation of British English
