Indie Rock is a genre of music that pays more attention to the means of production, rather than the actual style. The artists maintain control over their music and aren't forced to do anything they don't want to. It's an antonym to the mainstream genre of music that is heavily controlled by the record company it self.

To be fair his music is categorized under the genre of alternative rock in the sub-genre of shoegaze.

I tend to stay away from pop music (mainstream) and find more interest in underground music (indie).
