Capitalism is evil and killing America

926 views. 2010-3-13 20:42 |

I wanted to share an excellent movie with you.

It's a documentary done by the famous director, Michael Moore.

If you don't know why America is in so much trouble, you must watch this film A.S.A.P.!! (As Soon As Possible!)

The movie explains everything. Please watch it and reply to this blog about what you thought or to ask any questions.

Are you that innocent and simple minded? Just a movie and you believe everything you saw? That movie only shows the negative things about about capitalism. There are thousands of movies about the evils of commumism, should we believe that too? Personally, I am neutral. America is richest country in the world which treausres freedom, human rights, rule of law and everyone is equal before the law. Basically everyone has a right to education and can live the life he wish lawfully and without interference. Anyone infringe your rights, he will find himself penalised. People are generally well cared for, lives happily without fear. At least corruption is not rampant.  What is so bad about that? Are you sure you know what you are talking about?

I am not as innocent and simple minded as you might think. It is just a movie, I agree with you on that one. I tend to believe what I saw in the movie. I saw it first hand when it was happening in front of my eyes and it was hard to deny it then.

I've seen lots of movies about communism and I'm not sure what to think, as I have very limited first hand experience. But, as far as capitalism, I have about 27 years of first hand experience on that one.

Sure, America does have a certain amount of freedom and human rights. Though that is highly debatable in the past 4 or 5 years. Sure we have a right to education, though not higher education. I was amazed to find out that people from the UK have free access to higher education and dare I say it, heath care. Wow! I still owe $60,000 on my school loans. How much do you owe? I'm very curious on this one.
(Also I learned the UK info first hand when I lived there at the age of 15, not from a movie, so you can trust me on that one as well.)

But on the positive side, with that amazing college degree, I was awarded a coveted position as a photojournalist at a TV news station!!!! Wow, right? No, starting hourly wage was $6. But with every year, I could get up to a $.15 cent raise!! Health care? No way! The owner would rather show up in his $200,000+ Bentley than pay four photographers full time with benefits when he can hire 6 and pay them all part time with no benefits! But, hey! That's capitalism. So there's a positive thing for him and a few negative things for me and my peers. But let me tell you, I would dream about owning my own Bentley, with enough hard work I could be him some day. Wrong. I lack a certain amount of nepotism that is required to become that rich. But everybody has to wake up someday and realize that carrot on a stick is just that, a tool to make you fall in line. That's the American Dream in my American opinion.

I tend to disagree with your opinion that someone who infringes on my rights will be penalized? If you are the law or above the law in America, you can do what ever you like. It's simple. If you have money or connections to the right person/people, you aren't held fully accountable for your actions. I witnessed it first hand on many occasion. "What's that officer? You want to search my house? I'm sorry you don't have a search warrant. Oh, you're right America has changed a lot since 9/11. But . . . Well, if you gotta come in, just take off your shoes. Oh, your not going to, well whatever you like sir." By the way, this is a first hand account. Not from a movie.

How do you know that people are generally cared for and live happy lives without fear? How long have you lived in America? I'll give you another first hand account. This one is very personal and it hurts to share, but sure, if it will help you to wrap your mind around something you don't understand fully, ok.

Imagine this, your uncle has a great job in construction, hell, he's even unionized! Ya, well that didn't last too long, laid off. 15 years later and surprise, surprise! He's got mesothelioma from his job!!! But he doesn't have health care anymore and the medical bills are stacking up quickly! No problem, the government has deregulated the shit out of the banking sector. But god bless capitalism!!! Grandma's house, built by the hands of grandpa and paid off for almost 50 years is worth a lot of money! Whew! Thank god for that one. Money in hand, medical bills paid. Everything is great. But what's that, the bank is raising the premium every month. Too bad grandma ain't got a job! No worries, mom can help out! But the premium keeps going up. What ever can they do? Have an estate sale and move out. But where? It doesn't matter, the bank has foreclosed and grandma has 30 days to move out of the home she has lived in for 55 years. Time to move in with your sick son and care for him. What a great way to wind down those wonderful retirement years. I hope I have that to look forward to. (Also a first hand experience)

Corruption isn't rampant??? Seriously??? Wow, without a doubt, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I'm sorry but, wow. Where are you from?

Get your head out of the clouds. If you don't believe what you see in the media. Do some research! Ask people questions about their experiences. Don't just watch movies think the opposite and believe what you were taught in whatever propaganda, um I mean history book you read.

I simply wanted to share this movie because I truly think it grasps what real American's are dealing with in their current lives. Hell, it captured my families plight pretty well. It also presents it in a way that educates people who have no idea what capitalism is or it's history. Sure, it's a bit bias but so are the history books that are jammed down our throats. Maybe you should try watching it again with more of an open mind. It is a documentary with real people. I could have shared my story first but that stuff is kind of personal. I would rather let Hollywood entertain this wonderful Chinese kids!

Keep clam,my friends.I see little spark between you and sunnyv...your reply is longer than your article itself......As a the most advanced nation in the world, some troubles about the Capitalism can not be avoided as well as some bad habits of commumism live in the operation of china's government.
Of course,I will try that movie.

You still don't understand. The movie was made by an angry producer  . All it does is to show you the negtaive side of things in America, there is nothing in it which can balance the reality. Is life in America that bad? I have been a permanent resident of USA since 1996 and have lived in Florida. I have visited most of the states and do know how life is over there. I am sympathetic about your personal experience but it is plain to see that you have poor planning and mangement of your life there. Just go around Los Angeles and San Francisco where most of the Chinese immigrants live. Many of them have expensive homes with grand views and well manicured lawns. The expensive cars they and their children own shows how well off they are. As for health care, you are never refused emergency medical treatment when you need it, just pay for it later when you can. I am also born as a UK Citizen and I have lived under the UK authorities most of my life. You do not know how much i love that life. I enjoyed quality free education all the way. Quality medical services were availble to me free and I was well cared for. I was free to go anywhere and do whatever I liked so long as it is permitted under law. My rights and interests were perfectly safeguarded and I have total peace of mind.  What else can you expect? There you are, just watch a movie and you believe everything you see there. Who is not waking up?

I am watching that movie now! but I advise you two to be calm down. It's unneccessory to force the others to accept our views. but the only truth won't be changed.what we can do is sit back and wait for it. the futrue will tell you about everything we are diputing. But please pay attention to what is happening in the world. It may tell us that Capitalism is not everything .nor is Communism.

sunnyv: You still don't understand. The movie was made by an angry producer  . All it does is to show you the negtaive side of things in America, there is not
First of all, I would like to state that there is no hostility between myself and Sunny. It's great to debate different topics. I would also to like to retract my statement that Capitalism is Evil and killing America. This is no way to start a debate. Capitalism is flawed with instability and not caring for every American citizen. This is what we are debating.

I do understand that Michael Moore is angry. The film is biased but that doesn't mean the facts are untrue. This documentary isn't about the pros and cons of capitalism. It's only an alternate view of the prevailing attitudes toward capitalism.

The boom and bust nature of capitalism is the main reason why people are losing their homes and investments today. True, some people had poor planning and couldn't manage their lives. But you can't argue that people who managed their lives by going to school and working in traditionally secure fields were poor planners and deserve to lose everything. There are economic upswings, downswings, and bubbles. Capitalism is unstable.

Your statement about Chinese immigrants in southern California is baseless, “The expensive cars they and their children own shows how well off they are.” I've known plenty of Americans to lease or take loans from banks for cars and homes. You can never judge a book by its cover.

Also, 69% of Asians living in America were foreign born. Considering the difficulty it takes to gain residency in America, their wealth could well have been made in a non-capitalist country. Also, 75.9% came in the last two decades. (Source: US Census Bureau)

There is no validity to you arguments unless you back them up with factual statistics. As angry as Moore was, at least he could do that much.

But I’m really not sure what you’re trying to state? Are you trying to say that there’s a connection between income disparities and economic growth? That gains of the rich should motivate the poor to work harder and get ahead?

I’m not asking for too much. I believe that everyone in America should have a high standard of living, not just the top 25%. We may have to raise tax rates for the top 5% of Americans to accomplish this. All Americans deserve to have access to free medical treatment and higher education. There is no reason why the wealthiest country in the world can’t do the same as Afghanistan*, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iraq*, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United Kingdom (*Universal health coverage provided by United States war funding)

I never said that I believed everything in the film. It simply presents a counterpoint to challenge our thoughts and views. I am open to any debate of facts that you would like to challenge and discuss. I look forward to your refute, especially by offering opposing evidence or arguments

Thanks!

The main problem is in your choice of the title of your blog. Using words like evil and killing is plain exaggeration. There is nothing in your blog  which shows you have a balanced view of capitalism. The only thing you were interested in was to get more people to see the movie so that they also have negative views about capitalism. This is why you are seen as simple minded and innocent. However, i do feel you have subtantial knowledge about this topic and I enjoyed and respect your arguments.

Of course the words evil and killing were exaggerations!!! That was the point!

Unbalanced or balanced, at least I have knowledge and a view of capitalism that goes beyond what kind of cars or manicured lawns rich people have in California.

If you want to take a look at simple minded innocence, you need to pay more attention to your own diatribe.

I'm all open for a debate but you need to drop the accusatory assumptions you've been directing towards me.

I suggest you start looking into how the world works in America. What news sources do you read daily? Start with the New York Times or The Nation. Do some research into things you disagree with in the film. If you could get more knowledge behind your point of view you could actually begin to construct some valid arguments and actually prove a point.

Until that time don't bother replying to any of my blogs. I'm not interested in how you feel about me or my point of views until you can actually make an argument against them or myself.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, capitalism can be a really good thing but it needs regulation. Look at Germany and Japan for example. Socialist Democracies really seem to work for the profit motive and for the care of the people.
Reply Sharer 2010-3-25 21:04
Capitalism seems to be a system only for the rich people to exploit and govern their people. But the distorted communism is the same.

It's a long and tough road for you guys. You can do it but you've got so so so many people to raise up.

I will watch the movie tonight, Jimbo.
I appreciate your arguments so much, and your style too. Every viewpoint must be supported by the facts or factual statistics. And I've witnessed an interesting debate on this post.
