My god, Can't imagine how to live there so cold and with so much snow. I surely can't survive there because I have lived in the tropics all my life. May be this kind weather good for family life.

Sheila, 我的太太说了, "tell him even people like to hibernate."  We lived in a more southern climate for 14 years before returning to Arkansas.  Previously we had lived in Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina.  But we have lived here before and we like it.  The weather is different in each season, with some very hot summers and cold but not extremely cold winter.  If you want really cold, you have to go farther north.

By the way, your English is very good!

Last winter we had an ice storm.  If you look carefully at all the trees, you will see the tips of the branches were all broken off.  Now there's only one year's new growth beyond the broken tips.  The ice storm caused some homes to loose power for weeks.  The broken limbs knocked down electric power lines.  We lost power for several days.  I'll post more photos sometime soon.

Yes, I can see the trees were all broken off by this ice storm disaster. Hope the trees can grow stronger to overcome any storms.

Thanks, I am looking forward to sharing your photos.

I'm a botanist and an ecologist.  So I don't consider the ice storm a disaster, except in human terms.  This area frequently gets ice storms.  That said, most of those storms have very little ice.  But once every ten to twenty years we get a major ice storm.  To an experience eye (or observer) one can see that many of our trees have been broken by these repeated ice storms.  It is a natural part of the ecology of this landscape.

Old trees in some habitats take on a gnarled shape.  The ice storms create holes in the trees which provide nesting sites for birds and winter dens and hiding places for squirrels and other wildlife.  In reality, ice storms improve the habitat for some species and create a wealth of feeding sites for woodpeckers.

My point?  Ice is not all bad.  Besides, it is often very beautiful to walk out after an ice storm and see the sun reflected like a billion jewels in the landscape around you.  It makes a real winter wonderland.

Haha you don't need to "tell me" that people like to hibernate. I know it because I have lived in Canada before and I know what it is like to move to climate which suits oneself. The birds do it, people too. I originate from UK but I have lived in Southern China for long time and I love the weather because it's four distinct seasons. However each type of climate has it's own advantages and disadvantages. I am happy where I am now.

I agree with you to some extent. The pity is that I never seen snow since I was born. I have no idea what is real "ice storm" yet, it sounds a bit scary. Maybe is not. Look! There is a vivid picture is present to my eye.
I am lost in admiration of your description.

How beautiful it is! I like snow. But there was a ice damage happened in the southern china, that's a ruined desaster.

Yes, I like a climate that has four seasons.

English: I suggest you say ". . . an ice storm . . ." or ". . . southern China had an ice storm. . . ."  Note: "an", not "a."

The phrase "a ruined disaster" is understandable but a little unusual.  I might say simply "that was a disaster" or "major disaster."  I'd use the word ruin differently, such as "the storm ruined the shape of many trees."
