- You call this house? In US, there are "house", "apartment", "flat" and so on. What is the difference?

- House: a single physically separate structure, one family home.
Apartment: Can be attached to a house, but usually a separate building with several family units (apartments) inside.
Flat: a term used by city people for an apartment. Since I have not lived in a flat in a large city, I'm uncertain of the exact meaning, but I think of it as an apartment.

My father was a carpenter, and I am one too. But now, it looks like have a house and don't need to build one. I do expect to remodel our houses! Actually we own three now and part of a fourth. I own 1/9th of my parent's house. They had nine children. We ALL inherited it!
