It did not rise well.  I didn't make it correctly.  I should have added the water last, but the recipe said to add it first.  I knew better.  But Sheila always says "you should follow a recipe."  I cook better without a recipe!  The dough cooked into a heavy brick instead of light and fluffy bread.

Since there's more than one recipe, I would say "Sometimes recipes tell lies. . . your experience.  This writer is a little bad."

Of course you can say the last one in three ways with three meanings:

This writer writes poorly.  (anyone you are speaking about who is nearby)
I write poorly. (you did the writing)
That writer writes poorly.  (anyone not nearby).
You write poorly. (the other person)
