Sometimes, if it gets very cold, like -5 degrees C, the frost will kill any plants that can be frozen.  We call that a "killing frost."  At other times, if the temperature only reaches 0 degrees C (32 degrees F), only a little frost may form.  Sometimes it only forms on the tips of plant leaves and does not kill them.  That is still frost, but is not a killing frost.
