- touringchina: i didn't see any buffalo aroundWe killed them out when wiped out the Native Americans. Then we quit burning, and the grassland turned to forests. We almost killed all the American buffalo. 100 years ago, we had killed millions and only 400 survived. Today, we have tens of thousands.

In the late 1960's the government wanted to put a dam that would have flooded this river. The people protested and plans were changed. It became a national park, the Buffalo National River, in 1972.
