American meals: my favorite meal.

904 views. 2010-9-13 08:13 |Individual Classification:Food|

My favorite meal is quite simple.  I like mashed potatos, tomatos, and corn.  Since I was a vegetarian for 43 years, meat is not necessary.  I cooked this meal tonight and added fried okra.  Okra is a plant grown for food in the southeastern United States.  We cut the pods, cover them with a batter of flour, and fry them!

Sept. 11: Everything is cooking!

Sept. 11: Fried okra.

Sept. 11: boiled potatos, butter, and milk for mashed potatoes.

Sept. 11: mashing the potatos.

Sept. 11: serve hot with margarine or butter! I used canned tomatos. We grew the corn this summer, harvested it and froze it.

Basically, I have no idea of how to prepare Chinese food!  My wife hopes that someone will post information here to help her learn about it.

English: "You cook . . . . prepare . . . ?"

That is why we invite Chinese students to our home.  Most of them are graduate students at the University of Arkansas, where I once attended college.

Better English: 1) use a space after a comma, 2) "an American meal."

Come on over!  We can make some more!  The leftovers are still in the fridge!  HA!

English: Used a space after an exclamation point, but not before one.

First, English: "As I know, meat contains more protein than other foods."

My parents did not feed me meat when I was a child.  We did eat milk, eggs, and cheese.  They did this for both health and religious reasons.  We also ate what I call "fake meat" products.  These are "meat substitutes" made from soybean and other plant proteins.

When I was 19 years old, I ate about five hamburgers, about ten hotdogs, and a little piece of turkey.  I didn't like it at all.  I was 43 before I began eating meat at all.  I still only eat meat 2-3 times a month.  I like it a little bit, especially if I am very hungry, but I could easily live without it.  Of course, I try to have other sources of protein.

I know "fake meat" products! Last term, I made a part-time job for a convention centrer.I was assigned a job of selling "ham". Well, at the begining, I did not understand what differences these hams have. Then I knew that these hams are made from   soybean and other plant proteins, just like you said "meat substitutes". Now people are persuing a healthier eating way, when they heard us said that these hams were not made of meat, they were all pleased to buy our products!
This kind of eating way is very good and healthy!

That's interesting!  I am surprised to hear it.  But even the US is changing.  When I was a child, few people had heard about it.  But by the 1990s, forest fire fighters were eating lunches with no meat, so that 5% of the lunches were vegetarian.

English:  Use a space after a period or comma.
