Tonight I made a simple meal. Nevertheless, it shocked my wife. The meal had two dishes. The main course was simple noodles with alfredo sauce. The vegetables surprised Sheila. I cooked black-eyed peas with some cut green beans mixed in with them. Sheila came home to a hot supper and it shocked her. She asked me, "You like black-eyed peas?" She thought I didn't like them. She continued, "What other foods do you like that you have not told me about?" We have been married since 1987! She said, "I'm married to a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables. What else do I not know about you?"
I smiled! I told her, "You've seen me eat black-eyed peas a few times."
She replied, "Not that I can remember."
You see, I grew up being what we call "a picky eater." I only liked a few foods. I used to say, "I like corn, peas, and potatoes."
When I told people this, my first wife, Gail, would say, "He didn't tell me before we got married that those were the ONLY foods he liked."
The meal is simple to prepare because the vegetables were frozen when I bought them at the store and pre-mixed. The alfredo sauce was also pre-made and canned into a jar. Here's a photo, before I added butter. I call it butter, but it is almost always NOT butter, but is margarine.
