Baking some pies

733 views. 2011-6-25 06:40 |Individual Classification:Food

I decided to bake a few pies.  I made two last weekend.  My wife took them to church for an after-church meal she often attends.  I wanted to go with her for a change but I was too sleepy.  So today I made two more pies and two pans of cobbler.

June 24, 2011: First I gathered some of the ingredients and the pie pans. I used canned pie filling.

June 24, 2011: Next I greased the pans. I used Crisco, a common vegetable shortening for grease.

June 24, 2011: I made a very simple pie crust of flour, shortening, and water. Here I'm rolling the pie dough out flat.

June 24, 2011: Here's the filling in the pie shells. Sorry the photos are out of focus. I hate to use a flash and didn't hold the camera steady.

June 24, 2011: Then I put the pies in the oven to bake. The cobbler is on the bottom shelf.

I took the photo.  My camera has a timer.  I can set it to take a picture ten seconds after I click the shutter.

how i wish i lived in the us! i like American food, all simply-made but delicious. usu. no bones, no tough meat. i wonder if i can possibly buy all the necessary ingredients and make it myself at home. it is inconvenient and expensive to buy pies in the Mcdonald's.
are cobblers another kind of pies with different shapes? enjoy your pies and cobblers!

A cobbler is just like a pie, but in a square or rectangular pan of any size.  The ingredients are simple.  The crust is oil and water.  The oil we use is hard like lard.  It is called shortening.  The inside is also easy to make... fruit, sugar, and cornstarch to make it thick and not runny.  I added raisins and cinnamon to the apples for better flavor.

I am smiling after reading your response!  You mention capital letters, but don't use them!

I will have to take some pictures of me doing the dishes so my friends in China don't get the wrong idea.  I try to have the kitchen clean again before my wife gets home!
