One day can change your life. Here's a few that changed mine.
April 20, 1952 - I was born. Without that, nothing else would have happened!
Oct. 15, 1966 - My parents liked to go camping. In the early 1960s, we went camping when my youngest sister was only two weeks old and camped 13 weekends in a row that summer. On Oct. 15, 1966, we went camping in Highland Hammocks State Park in Florida with a church group. Gary Tucker, a birdwatcher, led a bird walk one morning that changed my life. I was fascinated by the way he could hear a bird and tell us its name. I wanted to do that and soon I could. Later, I would decided to majoring Avian Ecology, but had to settle on majoring in Zoology because there was no specialty major available at my (and most) university. I met and married a botanist and had two children, all as a result of one morning of birding.
March 14, 1987 - I decided to start collecting plants. I knew birds, but 13 years after graduation from college, still did not have a good job using my degree. I had taught school, had my own home remodeling business, worked as a salesmen, and was working in the intensive care unit of a hospital as a clerk. I knew I could do better and soon decided, "I should turn this into a master's degree." I'd started a master's twice before, only to 1) have my professor leave campus for two years, and 2) have a car accident and drop out a second time. The third time was a charm and I landed a fantastic job.
Feb. 26, 2004 - I walked into a bookstore at lunch looking for something interesting to read and bought a Chinese phrase book. It changed my life. By that time, I had a good career and was nearing retirement. I wanted to be able to write notes that none of my co-workers could read and leave them on my desk to make them curious. The last thing I expected to get from learning Chinese was grandchildren! However, I made contact with students from China, learned about QQ (2563613199), and was soon teaching English for free every week on Skype (see my website for details, sedgehead dot com, but I'm not teaching again until May). One of my students wanted me to teach English to children of her friends using the internet. After my son's wife died unexpectedly, I introduced him to her, since she was my friend and his age. To my surprise, they got married and had a baby nine months later, Dec. 24, 2014, a date that will change his life! Now, he says, "I have to learn Chinese so I can talk to my kid!" So much for me having privacy by writing Chinese so no one can read it. My brother followed my lead as well and plans to marry his Chinese girlfriend.
What will change your life? I don't know. However, something will, and it will probably take a small action on your part (like watching birds for a couple hours, collecting a plant, or buying a book) to make big changes (a career and family).
lovingfun: Yeah indeed, I totally agree with you on that. There are several "one days" that change my life . I would not like to say what had happened ...
