A friend was worried about
becoming a writer and not being successful.
Here is my response. The secret is
this. You cannot fail. If you attempt to do something you succeed. You attempted it. You can only fail by not attempting to do something. Life is like that. If you decide that something is not your best
choice, you can simply make another choice.
But you did not fail. You lived your
life in the way you wanted to live it. That
is success. If you chose to live a different
way, that is also success. You lived. You did.
That is good enough. I will use myself
as an example. I have had 47 jobs in my life. I taught school. I drove a school bus. I worked in a hospital. I owned a business and remodeled homes. I worked for the government. I worked as a janitor. I would not say I failed at any job. I just chose to do something different in my next
job. That is not failure. That is being flexible. Even being flexible is
being successful.

- Failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of success.
The one who falls and gets up is much stronger than the one who never fell.
Bill Gates of Microsoft failed in some subjects in school, but he is now the Chairman and those who passed in all subjects are his employees. Figure it out.
There are people out there who are terrified of trying and we can see that they are going nowhere. Have confidence. The future is in your own hands.

- Usually, when we talk about the issue "success", we mean that we have already achieved something. In fact, just as you say, when we attempt to do something, we are already on the way of success, only a few steps away from the results which we really long for.

- Same to you! But I just keep myself staying in the same company instead of going away because I need money to travel, to support my family, to buy beautiful clothes and to go shopping etc. But most importantly, I do not want to loose my heart too wild, and I want to control my emotions and my temper. So I chose to stay. Success is not that you are always accomplishing something great, or fulfilling something impossible, it depends on how you define it. It is a freedom of thought.

- Actually, I became concerned when I held one job for eight years! Then, a few weeks ago, I realized I have been an editor since early 2010. I've had this business going for five years now! Gasp! That's an eternity!

- Oh, five years! I am just a freshman making myself stable in the job market as a customer support. I love your ideas of living your life, instead of living your job, by achieving yourself in many different areas. I love that and maybe I can do so in the future. It depends on how it is going with my current job. And then, how you are going with your current position? An editor! That must be a reason why you always brought fresh ideas here. An editor with five-year experience!
