Client VS Customer

615 views. 2011-7-18 22:16

After the happy weekend, Back to work again.

Today I nearly had a fight with my boss, for two English words: Customer and Client.

This afternoon, my boss asked me to make an order sheet. He had a problem with the word "client" for 顾客 in Chinese. He said that I was wrong and decided to use the word "customer" instead after refering to the dictionary. His reason is that he had never come across this word in his life. I tried to persaude him. But he said we students stick too much to textbooks and knowledge we learnt. I was annoyed. He can't deny me just because he have never known the word himself. I hate to be denied just for that rediculous reason.

A second thought, I realized that it is really hard for an experienced manager to believe in an unexperienced junior. Experience counts. Anyway, I have learnt a lot from this. If you can't change others, change yourself. Enrich yourself and show others that you can be trusted.

That's interesting. It is always a golden rule in employer-employee relationship. But sometimes it is also advisable for the employer to listen to his employee's opinions.
