Of being a Chinese

824 views. 2011-7-29 21:18 |

In China, it is not weird at all hearing people complaining about the government, the Party and the society.
"The traffic is terrible." "People are suffering." "The so-called civil servants are extremely corrupted." "Poeple enjoy no freedom here." "The price of commodities is climbing while people's salary is decling." ..........................
There is therefore an incredible number of Chinese people yearning for their own imaginary ideal world in foreign countries, say the U.S.A. For them, life in those countries is far more better than that in China. Maybe they can find their way out in another country, and many people did. But many of them still love their country and won't  speak ill of their the place where they are born because they know what it means of being a Chinese.
It is a pity that there are still many Chinese people who speak ill of their own people and country in front of foreigners. Their ignorant admiration of foreigners really disgusts me. From them I know why people from other countries depreciate China and why they deny the fact that Honh Kong is in China.
Maybe I am too young to see clearly the dark site of China. But I know the simple saying that every coin has two sides. Many people speak of "down with ...". But if that happens, I don't think there will always a better life. Maybe China is not doing good, but I am grateful for at least it guarantees me a stable society and people are not in war. As a Chinese, we for sure need to point out the mistakes and give suggestions to the government. On the other hand, we should also be proud of being a Chinese. When questioned by foreigners, we should at least say that Hong Kong is part of China. If we want others respect us, we must first of all respect ourselves.

Are you an old people? Your thinking is from 20 years ago. China is a open modern country now. This old thinking is from the past. Our own China do something good, we clap our hands to support them. If they make serious mistakes, we must criticize to prevent from happening again. Do not try to cover up mistakes of the government. The leaders belong to the people and work for the people, that is why we call it "The people's" Republic of China. Will you say good about the government is one of your close relative die in the railway accident? Wake up please.

During my internship, I met a lot of such kind of people, which really annoys me. I tried to argue with them, but they think I am too young and have been brainwashed by the textbook. They even believe that we students in college don't have critical thinking at all. But I want to tell them: maybe I am too young and unexperienced, but I know what it means of being a Chinese. And they don't!

Sorry. I think you misunderstand me. By the way, the blog is not finished. And I have no relatives who die in the accident. But I am sorry for the tragedy and I think the government should be responsible for that. And I also believe that China will be doing better. And I am not old.

honestly, we should be proud of being a chinese. as an old sayng goes, children should never complain about having an ugly mother. whether it is a traditional thinking or not, i believe it is something that we are supposed to have as a respectable person.
on the other hand, there're many forms of loving one's motherland. hating corrupted officials is one of them. it is everyone's responsibility, not just the so-callled high ranking officials to make our country prosper and strong. in this sense, going abroad doesn't necessarily mean that he or she is not patriotic. the key is to look at the essence of one's behaviours. another criterion to judge is whether one is telling the truth instead of being false or just being one side of the story.

Exactly! In my opinion, one can hate the government, but can't hate one's motherland.
