Pride and Prejudice-The Unreliable Love Between Darcy and Elizabeth

571 views. 2011-10-10 21:03 |Individual Classification:sharing my favourite bools

“Oh Darcy, my Darcy, I must thank you. You know I am selfish, but please forgive me. I’ve known everything.”

“Oh, God, you’ve known it, you’ve known it. How silly I am! Mrs. Gardiner is really an unreliable person.”

“Please don’t say so, you are not silly, you are great! Don’t blame Mrs. Gardiner, I should thank her. It’s Lydia’s thoughtlessness first betrayed to me. Oh, Mr. Darcy, I must thank you again and again, please accept my thanks. You did a lot for my family.”

“Oh, Elizabeth, if you will thank me, let it be for yourself alone. Believe it or not, when I did this, what I thought was you, just you, only you.”

“……”

“Oh my Elizabeth, I know I’m wrong, I am wrong for a thousand times. But you know what, I know you are a generous person, you can understand my wrong doings. Elizabeth, listen, I’ve changed, I am not the one you met last April, but I don’t know your feelings. Please tell me, and let me know.”

“Oh, Darcy, I’m too flattered, you know what I am thinking.”

“No, I don’t. Please tell me.”

“Yes, you do. You know what I mean.”

“But I don’t, Elizabeth. Tell me.”

“I thought you knew. You let me down. Can’t you see it? Can’t you see what I mean?”

“Oh, Elizabeth, I’m not a genius, tell me now.”

“Darcy, I’ve also changed since you did that for our family. But why you say you did that thing for me?”

“I think I love you.”

“You think you love me, but what about the truth? How can you prove that it isn’t an illusion?”

“Because you changed me.”

“I did’t change you.”

“No, you did. You said ‘had you behaved in a more gentleman-like manner’. That’s your words. At first, it tortured me a lot, but afterwards I thought it again and again, and I found you are right. You wanted me to be better, you cared me. I was too arrogant at that time.”

“What I am saying is not what I am meaning. It’s just your thoughts. You thought I changed you, but I am not. I said that because I was angry, not because I cared you. (Elizabeth is smiling.) I meant nothing, and I expected nothing. Oh, Darcy, then do really you love me? You sure?”

“Do you love me? I thought you said that because you cared me. You know you are so beautiful, and……Oh, Elizabeth, I’m confused. If you love me, then I love you. What do you think?”

“If I love you, then you love me. What if I don’t? Then you don’t love me? Then all your affections and wishes for me go away at once?”

“I need to know your feelings. Tell me, Elizabeth, tell me now. Then all doubts are gone.”

“……Before the thing happened, I don’t. I thought you were arrogant, you are proud, or even you are cold. But after the thing was solved, I changed my views. I think you may be not that bad. Just now, when you said you did that for me, I was awkward, I mean, I was happy, and I am still very happy. It’s so material a change.”

“So you mean you also love me?”

“I think so.”

“But you changed your mind in a moment. You love me because I helped you, what about your feelings before I helped you? If I didn’t help you, then you won’t love me. Is it a right judgment?”

“Maybe.”

“I love your frankness, Elizabeth, though it hurts.”

“At least I tell the truth. But you know what I am thinking and I am feeling, right? Isn’t it enough?”

“I’m worried. You changed so materially. You hate me, you love me, you hate me, you love me. What is right and what is wrong? What are your true feelings?”

“They are all true in different times. I did hate you at first, but now I love you.”

“My objection then,” replied Darcy, “was to show you, by every civility in my power, that I was not so mean, and I wanted to lessen your ill opinion, by letting you see that your reproofs had worked. I want you to see I’m different.”

“Mr. Darcy. I may fall in love the image of me, whom you want to change for. It’s not love, it’s an illusion. You even don’t know me, we just met several times, and for the poor several times, we left bad impressions to each other. How can we change our mind so quickly and significantly? ”

“It has a process.”

“I doubt it.”

“We love each other.”

“Yes, we do. Maybe we are wrong, we don’t love each other, we love the imagination of each other. There are so many unknows. ”

“You are too rational.”

“I have to.”

“What about Bingley and Jane, don’t they move you?”

“Mr. Bingley is too vacillant to love. He is so easily guided that his worth was invaluable. He always listens to others and has no his own idea.”

“What about my letter, I wrote a letter.”

“Oh, Darcy, my Darcy…….”

The conversation continued until they reached the house which was in the hall they parted.

Haha, you have finished reading. Am I right or crazy?
