On 25th Sep, 7 officials of the government council were sentenced to 4-year imprison because of the negligence which brought deaths. Back in April 2009, the earthquake in central Italy, leading 309 deaths. Just before the earthquake, officials declared “safety ” and low-probability of the accident, breeding an extending scale of casualties.

The seven official were thrown into prison because they provided “incorrect, incomplete and contradictory” information. After 2 years’ defending, earthquake experts, anyway, got the punishment.

Seeing this news, I feel puzzled. In our country and our context, the earthquake prediction is always a world-wide problem, and it is very normal to say it inproper, even---wrong! Our “experts” never got punishment, and they take it for granted. “A, it is hard, you know, earthquake is so intangible!”

But every time they say it is OK, actually, it is not OK at all. We suffer so much. We are angry! But experts are still experts, they are not responsible for their speeches.

At least the incident teaches us one thing that experts have responsibilies. They have the right to speak, but they can’t abuse it. They should burden the account for what they say, and laws can be introduced in such a system. Stop bragging, stop mixing the truth, stop pretending to know what you don’t.
