From tonight ,I start collecting some commonly used idioms in American's life,some of which are from the Internet,others from an English learning  book.The purpose I do these is for me to have a profound understanding of these idioms as well as provide some learning material for those friends who have the passion for learning English like me. If u happen to run into reading the blog,u may find it quite unique--the idioms listed are different from what u may come across in a common glossary book.Actually most of them are far from our understanding with a Chinese thinking mode.But if we wish to make a killing in America,we must keep our nose to the grindstone,and not have our heads always in the clouds.Okay,here we go!

1,above board

   legitimate,legal 合理的，合法的

eg,She knows it shouldn't  be kept  a secret.She wants to keep everything above board.

2,across the board

  including everyone,everything

eg, The company had a successful year.All salaries were increased by 10% across the board.(公司销量好，大家都发财 :-))

3,air one's dirty laundry in the public

  discuss personal problem openly

eg.He is a very private person.If he has a problem in his family,he doesn't want to air his dirty laundry in the public.(家丑不宜外扬啊)

4,all along

  all the time.

She was accepted into the university,but she knew all along that she'd get in.(会当击水三千里，自信人生二百年！)

5,all ears

eager to listen.

I was exited to to hear about her vacation.When she told me about it , I was all ears.(洗耳恭听)

Oh,tragedy,power went out！

6,All thumbs

clumzy,unable to fix things;

eg,Don't  ask me to put that clock back together.I am all thumbs.   (全是拇指固然很笨拙喽)

7,an arm an a leg

a large amount of money;

eg,It takes an arm an a leg to fix the stove,

8,ants in one's pants

nervous and anxious;

eg,He wasn't sure if he would be chosen to win the award .He has ants in his pants. (知道热锅上的蚂蚁该怎么表达了吧~)

9.apple doesn't fall far away from the tree.

Being similar to a parent or a family member;

eg.He is like his father;You know,apple doesn't fall far away from the tree. (记得《怦然心动》里面那个坏小子是这样说小女孩跟她的智障叔叔的)

10.apple of one's eye

some special ,usuallly a  son or daughterl

eg, Although she loves her son,her daughter is her apple of her eye. (掌上明珠啊)

11,at fault

responsible for mdking errors;

eg,He is at fault for  all the errors on the computer.(意为该问责的)

12,at odds

In disagreement;

He is at odds with his boss.(产生分歧的)

13，at one's back and call

always  ready to do what is ordered;

Whenever she calls him.he always helps her.He is  at her back and call.(追女孩三十六计之随时待命)
